What happened? Did all the little girls and boys on AFF goto bed did they?
By the way I reckon the blown 5.0l is the superior and far more reliable engine of the two, but the VE is the better car to drive hands down.
But that's my opinion.

In fact I would say the xr6 handling is marginally better then the ve ss redline, I am not one of those people who equates firmness with handling, the commodore is to stiff to be comfortable and the seats leave a lot to desire, the falcon seats are more comfortable but the seat is to high. A cross between the 2 would work for me. The simple. Facts engine wise is the xr6 is smoother and better around town
I remember we used to do a combined Motorkhana event with the HSVOC and the XR club and the XR's used to have terrible under steer issues.
All fairly slow speeds, but really showed the difference between the two lineups.
Obviously it's not Apples with Apples because of the price difference between an XR and a HSV, but I certainly know the HSV guys used to go home chuckling.
My parents have a FG G6E and my Calais V is a much better driving and handling car. I guess it must just be personal preference.
By the way... I find the XR seat head rests completely off putting. Is there a way to change the angle of those things so that they don't force your head too far forwards? They make me feel sick when I have to drive those damn things.
Whats the point to this thread, are you actually going to buy one or the other?
So far you have a thousand different opinions and i'd say thats as good as its going to get here...
You may think that but your wrong, the VE SS and even moreso the Redline are much better dynamically over the FG let alone the BF. The FG initial turn in is slightly better with maybe even a little more feel or feed back but that's all where it ends. Mid corner grip and corner exit power down of the VE leaves the FG needing every bit of its extra force fed grunt just to catch up before the next corner. The seats in the VE shit all over the lacklustre bolstering of the XR range as well, let's not talk about the antiquated driving position either. I have had the privilege of owning both of the brands latest offerings and have spent a fair whack of time in both on track and in advanced driver training for the A.D.F.
NVH on the Ford is superior as is the cruise and multimedia interface, the quality of the ZF box is second to none although the Gm slusher smashes it in sequential mode. The diff in the VE is also a better unit (ZF).
The blown 5.0l is a world class unit but it just hasn't got the chassis back it up.
OP
Xr6t BA vs ls1.... Both unopened
Which is likely to be quicker over the quarter mile?
....just sayin
fate that this thread pops up when im prepping my HSV for sale and shopping for an XR6T.
what would be quicker around a circuit?
:woot:
These threads always provide a laugh... Fords forced induction motors are great bang for buck to get cheap power. For what i would spend on a full exhaust for my caprice, i could have tune + injectors on either the 6T or SC 8 with money left over (maybe up to $1000 left over) and a lot more power than the caprice could offer... I love the caprice, but i'm finding it very hard to resist a GT next year! For me to get the power i want in the caprice, i would have to outlay quite a lot more than needed in a factory forced induction car... That's quite obvious isn't it? Not sure why so many still can't see the value of the ford!
As for what handles better... Perhaps the holden nudges the ford on that front, but who really pushes a car that hard on the street to find either limits? All well and good to say the holden's are better on the circuit, but we drive on the road... Apart from an odd track day...
Any coincidence that this subject has popped up around the Easter school holidays?
Faaaark me. As if people haven't batted off enough over this subject in the past already...
Maybe it was just started as an April Fools joke on a Holden forum...when you look at the start date and time ;)
Which one is "fastest"?
When you put the two of them on the dragstrip, and both drivers have similar technique, and one of them wins, you know. :)
My reservations about how fords drive, I prefer the fact that the LS motors have such a wide availabily of parts both OEM and aftermarket due to being a USDM line of engines over the limited support for the Ford 6.
That said if the company could actually market its force fed offerings, they might not be in the position that they are currently in - I could have bought a BF Typhoon for what I bought my VZ for, which is incredible value for money IMO.
REALLY hey...so your obviously not aware of all the vlt and skyline tuners switching to 4.0t motors then.
And my bro has a new Miami gt and people go on about it not having the chasis for the engine...please its a GT...its not really supposed to. And its got a lot more power then the badge says that's for sure. The GT rspec is what they should have been from the start though.
But as for the turbo sixes...I cant believe how many guys around here switch to childish nonsense to hide their denial of the 4.0ts ability to make far cheaper and superior power then the LS1s.
Don't deny it...embrace it. Of course if the OP was talking about trackdays then it would be a different story...far different.
Of course it would be a different story.
After a couple of laps both the Ford and Holdens will fall over.
No track capable cars are produced here, just street cars.
The track cars are built and/or up spec’d for the purpose by their owners. That means in most cases their track ability is closely related to the depth of the owner’s pockets.
.
First of all your beloved track weapon the "R" spec got pumped by a shitty arse Chrysler 300 around the track in the latest comparo (hate to say it but it told you so), and when has anyone on here denied the tuning ability bang for buck of the Turbo 6? Power being equal the Ford/FPV will get spanked everytime, both on road and track by the Holden/HSV equivelant.
Now isn't it past your bed time?
My brother and one of my best friends both have 2010 FG XR6 turbos. Both are ZF 6spd autos. Even though stock they both give my car (VX clubbie, mafless, otr, 3.73, exhaust, manual still running A4 tune for 3.07 and SS ind. cai) a very good run and definitely have me top end I find them very boring in auto form.
I agree they are very quick and have heaps of potential but I wouldn't call them street kings. One thing I have noticed though is the owners tend to think they very much are, even completely stock lol. I've heard of my brother's "supposedly" beating a 317 M6 clubbie and my friend's "supposedly" beating an M109R :O LMAO.
I've grown up driving Jap turbos and love the rush of turbo cars but I'd take an LSx over a Ford 6 turbo anyday. Horses for courses in my opinion...
who denies it???...haha don't make me laugh. You deny it. All you do is disrespect my opinion and the ability of the fords in question. The OP asked which is better in UNOPENED form..xr6t or ls1. No mention of GTs and or equalizing measures that you talk about. The fact is dollar for dollar...KW for KW..their turbo spanks our ls1 and that's a fact.
And if tuners are defaulting to a certain engine for their top power needs....explain how that doesn't equate to some level of street king.
LOL, i disrespect the ability of the Fords? I am actually a big fan of the Fords drive-train both in the 6 and particularly the blown 5.0l (hint: i own a GS ute!) but as a "whole package" they trail the Holden, i'm sorry if you can't face that fact but it is true!
Unopened and stock a VZ is the better handler even though it scrubs the shit outta it's outside fronts when it leans in hard, for damping and bump/rebound the BA is probably the car to own and even though the interior is more updated on the BA over the VZ the fit and finish quality of the VZ was miles ahead.
As for straight line grunt, well the Turbo is a cracker and once money is spent an LS1 would only dream of keeping up, saying that the reliability of the tuned LS is far greater than the XR!
Oh and if they had the "street king" cred you talk of then they wouldn't be struggling to stay in the top 20 in sales month by month.
you don't have to prove anything to me......once again you have waffled on about drivelines and handling in cars not even mentioned in this thread...except by you. You speak mostly the truth but its not the OPs question answered when you suggest that the LS1 holdens handles better and when you spend an extra ten grand on the holden, theyll even perform the same. Ha please if you try to stay on topic for half a line you may not sound so tragically biased to holden products.
Oh yeah and lets bring sales into it shall we...real smart....that always proves which one is faster....(smacks forehead)
I've owned both and personally nothing beats the sound and the instant torque of the v8.
The turbo is quick and fun, but no matter how fast it is, deep down you know it's a 6.
After a long day at work you walk to your car and start it up and it just sounds like your normal falcon. The v8 you never get sick of.
These days with all the hoon laws and cops getting tough, is it really that important to have all that power? It just makes you break the law more often.
A v8 you can enjoy at any speed from the moment you start it.
To answer the question though, a ba unopened will be quicker. I remember doing 12.8@112 before needing valve springs.
Huh? Do you read before you type?
I said the once the XR was tuned, modded etc the LS1 wouldn't have a chance of keeping up.
And the sales thing was to do with the "Street King" label you gave them, nothing to do with the performance of said car!
Correct me if I'm wrong is the topic not about an LS1 and BA? Also correct me if I'm wrong but doesnt the VZ have an LS1.
vz came with both 5.7ltr untill 2005, then L76 6ltr 2006 onwards.
the op said BOTH can be modded...just remain unopened.
And if you want to talk about sales then maybe your reffering to chart or sales king..not street king...where modding is KEY.
And I was commenting you bringing up handling as if it had anything to do with the power cars make when modded and tuned unopened...that's what I ment.
Oh and I wholeheartedly agree with GTS 365....living with a v8 sound track is what its all about anyway..for me at least
Dipped my toe in this thread every now and then and it just occurred to me that you could bolt a turbo to an ls1 and it is still unopened as I see it. Then it would depend on how much power the LS1 fuel system can support?:lol::hide:
And LS7, LS9 etc etc.
I guess the real answer is, how fast can you afford to go?
