Well I got my Calais out today and went for a spirited and the auto is definitely better. It was a little unsure just after the pan mod but I have put that down to learning how to change when it has oil !!
After that I did a full reset of the tranny controller and changed a bit in the tune. Shifts are now bang on and very positive in 1-2-3rd which it never used to be before.

I still have 6 Caddy pans here, with minor baffling and the fill tube extended 17mm, (they require very little baffling when you have the correct amount of oil in them... VE pan is a different story) that puts the oil just below the gasket line like it does with the stock VE pan, however I didnt pull mine off to offer up the caddy pans to check for clearance, Wonky said his fill tube interferred with the valve body so the tube may have to be lowered, thats ok but you would have to add enough oil to get it up to where it should be. I can tell all you guys... the A6 box is fine when its tuned and the pan/baffle/oil level is addressed. I run my SSV VE with original A6 box with a TCE 4000 converter (no cooler) with my 427ci engine as my daily for 12months while tuning engine and trans, i drag raced it and had issues with the box flaring after it left the line..1.56 60ft ers. By the time we worked out the trans was starving for oil when it left the line and causing the line pressure to drop which lets the clutches go.. I thought it might be time to have a look at it. I give this box everything I could throw at it, 120K on it and when Sureshift pulled it apart it was not too bad, but I put a tune in the box when it had 6k on it. Got the box back, put my VE modded pan on, went to the drags and done some tweaks at the track, went a few 11.0s @ 128, backing off, next pass I run 10.82 @ 124 with a broken valve spring and hurt the engine, the box performs flawlessly. I then put my original 6 lt with a little 216@050 cam back in the car(idles smooth) with a 3000TCE converter, retuned the box and have drag raced it like that ever since, it has done heaps of 11.8@ 115mph with the NA 6lt and probably another 30 on the bottle. I run 11.15 @ 122 with a 125 shot and the box still shifts flawlessly and i leave the line with the n2o on and 1.57 60 fters.... I have it tuned now so I just select drive... point and shoot...... dont blame the box, good convertor, tune it properly, it does take time. All my 427 engine tuning and trans tuning was all done with help from Joel Prince.
Would still like to have one of the pans if I could - would be awesome!
I found that from the top of the filler tube to the gasket line was exactly 1tr on the caddy pan. I was going to extend the filler but it hit on the main valve body :(Quote:

As Dieselman said, Chev also found that the extended fill tube fouled on something so they just shortened it back which was no worry to them as they'd previously created another tool to allow them to fill the A6 pans with extra oil so don't use it anyway. I think it's basically like a dipstick which slides between the pan and gasket to allow them to see when it's at a certain level (I'm sure I'm not giving any trade secrets away there :D).Quote:

Like i said in my PM to Wonky, I would like to offer them up to a box which i didnt have before just to make sure alls good, I will do one and try it on my own box. I think i will machine the tube off so it becomes a drain plug and then weld one on the side or rear, wherever to get the level right. Just to be sure everyone knows, make sure you set the level with the engine running. No trade secrets Wonky, I made this public over a year ago. as you knpw it fixes most issues, the tune fixes the rest... Gaz.
Sorry, the "trade secret" reference was in relation to the tool Chev made up to make sure the box was filled to the right level i.e. technically overfull without using the fill plug. :)

Most G8 guys use a Camaro deep pan with CTS-V wide mouth which is US $68.75 + $US 75 courier. Just found this thread and was wondering what the difference / advantage of the STS-V pan was. I think they are same.
I'm buying today, so if anyone else wants above we can share the shipping?!
I've ordered two complete kits anyway as the shipping box takes another, so I have one spare if anyone would like to beef up their box too.
