- It builds "performance" Holdens for proud, cashed up individuals who want an Australian built car, that stands out in the crowd
- HSV does not build "race" cars
- HSV underatands the cache of the brand and brand loyalty. HSV used to list repeat owners on their website once upon a time....and there were a lot of repeat owners.
- Car manufacturers aren't in the business of determining vehicle depreciation....the market determines that
- HSV is a mainstream business that builds, market and sells cars. Niche players get swallowed up. HSV isn't going to let that happen. Volume + margin = survival
- HSV will never be to Holden what AMG is to Mercedes. The Australian market is too small for that
- HSV understands that there is an effective aftermarket that will make their cars what owners want.
- HSV understands the strength and weakness of the core vehicle
- HSV understands that threads like this demonstrate the passion of the brand, why else would this thread still be kicking after some three weeks?
OK so back over to the rest of you to continue
Great Post . . . . and if today it was 4/1/2008 . . . it would be bang on . . . .
Then the Management Changed . . . . !!!!
But point #10 is 100% Correct
To know your market is more than adding trendy looking and performing stuff to Commodores
Its about understanding every facet of the MARKET . . . and what you need and can do to keep HSV at the Forefront of the niche market they are in!!!!
Your point #5 is determined by many facets . . . inc Supply & Demand
. . . today is 4/1/2012 . . . get with it!!!!
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?

Alas I have only bought one brand new HSV, (owned 2), and cancelled the order on the 3rd one (thats forgetting the HRT427 which an order was taken for and they couldnt supply)....but I figured that was what it was all about? Bling and some different parts catalogue stuff. Surely in the case of a Clubby you arent paying for a completely re-engineered car over an SS. So some shiny shit and a handful of kilowatts is pretty good value considering. Maybe they are the masters of knowing their market...
If they were serious about these cars being performance cars, they would have a factory oil cooler.......HSV spotters tell me which HSV had the last factory fitted air to air oil cooler? That will tell you when performance was considered the core of the car.

Ok then...After 23 painfully long pages of hearing you tell anyone that thinks HSV are doing a pretty good job that they are wrong, I have a suggestion.
Rather than have another 23 painfully long pages of you telling everyone the same, how about going straight to the HSV board when they have their next meeting, and tell them to their faces...
Then, they can either listen and take in what you have been telling us for 23 pages and agree they are all sh!t at their jobs, or they can shoot you down and send you back to internet forum anonymity.
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
Lookout.....Davos back
Re: Does HSV understand its Market?
should new HSV's be cheaper overall? i know i cannot ever buy a new HSV even though i have always aspired to own one. At the current price point, ie almost 90k for a gts, they are rubbing shoulders almost with more elite marques and those that have the dollars to buy one have plenty of other choice. The rest of us a dreaming or looking at 2nd handers.
Does anyone remember whether HDT cars were priced above what the average joe could afford?

Thats what they are aiming for if everybody could afford one they would then become an everyday car just like the commodore/SS. You would be surprised how many people can afford a HSV

no not really..... as far as I remember
I had a VK V8 manual Berlina and it was the same price as a VK SS Grp A (both at about $21 large in 1985)
The full noise VH Grp 3 with the hi-output engine was exactly $5k more than the std VH SS with the 5.0 engine (not the 4.2 version)
and the original VN Clubsport was about the same price as a VN Calais...
