Finally remembered to get measurements for my ute! Kings SSSL springs and Monroe GT short body shocks all round.
Measurements centre of rim to wheel arch:
Front left: 368mm
Front right: 367mm
Rear left: 340mm
Rear right:340mm
For those who like measurements from ground to wheel arch:
Front left: 695mm
Front right: 694mm
Rear left: 670mm
Rear right:670mm
Thanks to amckiwi for measuring for me because the rears in particular were not easy to do due to the camber and deep dish.
:goodjob:
Hi wonks, progress beautifly coming along!
It looks like its screaming BIG BRAKES!:headbang::headbang:
keep the Mods coming
I am looking for a shop on Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise) to lower my ssv ute with sssl and ssl. Does anyone know any good ones around here. I just moved here recently and I am still a little bit lost.
F*** Wonky that ute looks awesome...can't wait to start on mine
Cheers
Lookin good Wonky! Im thinkin i should've gone sssls now instead of ssls:doh:
Thanks gladrock! How's your automatic lid set up coming along?
It can scream BIG BRAKES all it likes but with my disabilities I don't/can't drive it hard enough to justify spending $3,000+ on brakes just to look good. :bawl: If someone wants to give me some I'll be happy to pay to have them installed!
Hi Mate,
If I had some spare they'ed be yours! lol
Hardlid opener is coming along, It takes just over 20 secs to raise and 10 to lower. I just want to see if I can get used to it taking that long to go up, If it bugs me still in a couple of weeks I will piggy back the factory gas struts to the back of the actuators to get it down to 15ish seconds, dont know yet, I just have to change my habits i hope.
How you going with the gizmo to help get your frame out of the back?
I didn't realise you could have actuators faster in one direction than the other! Does gravity play a part in that or some other factor?
Have had so much else going on lately that I haven't had a chance to go any further with something for the walker. When I do I'll start a thread in Tar Pit showing basically what I need and asking for suggestions. :)
The actuators are rated at 90kg each, The sheer weight on the VZ hardlid forces them down alot quicker'
Post some pics of your ute back and your frame at the best location for you and weel all see if we can come up with some ideas!
I think you have allot of options due to having both tailgate and hardlid moving at the same time.... even a simple seatbelt style strap connected to both the lid and the tailgate would give a lift and slide motion... hmmmm now you have my brain ticking......pics
wonky love the ute mate. and especially love the wheels (what are they) sits alot lower than mine but didnt want to push me luck lol
Thanks smokey! :goodjob: The rims are DTM Shine. 20 x 9 front, 20 x 10 rear.
Hi Wonks,
Thought I would share a little mod I did today to the remote hardlid opener after going to Bunning and buying a length of wood that was longer than the ute tray (normally I would sit the lid down on top of the overhanging wood), with the one push setup the lid closed all the way without stopping, even once it had hit the wood, putting a force on the lid and actuator mounts.
Currently you have to pick between one push and it travels all the way up or down, and option 2, it opens and closes only when the button is pushed and held down. To change between the 2 options you must move a Jumper style plug, with the plug on both posts the lid only moves while the button is pushed, remove the Jumper plug, shut the power to the module off, reconnect the power and now the lid moves all the way up or down with 1 push of the button.
I wanted to change this option easilly as it is very fidlly to change, so I removed the jumper, soldered a short wire to each post, connected a on/off switch to the wires and that is it, I can now change easilly between each mode by just a push of a button. Depending how the power is supplied to the module, all you need to do is push the button, turn the power off (I have mounted a small switch to the handbrake so all I need to do is release the handbrake, wait 10 secs and re-apply the hand brake), now it has changed mode. If your module is powered by accessory power you just need to turn your key off for 10 secs.
Not sure it would suit your needs but thought it was a neat mod, you may even want to show your install guy! Cost me $3.50 to modify.

Great thinking Simon! If I was to constantly swap between modes then I'd definitely do it but I initially had it on "hold button down to operate" mode for a fortnight or so while we made sure it was all fine and there were no hidden problems. Then we switched to "one press" mode and I figure that's where it will stay now, particularly given I realised that even in that mode you can still stop it at any point by just pressing the same button again.
Hey Wonky your ute looks and sounds great! I was thinking about putting DTM Shines on my white SSV sedan but going a bit different and painting the rims gloss black and the spokes matt black. :goodjob:
