Spigot bush was a press fit brass item into the back of the crank. Tricky to get out but I snapped a hacksaw blade in half and sawed through each side til it pretty much fell out. Took about an hour but it was free :)
Got stuck again today, things were going so well when I decided to lose a clutch bolt for no reason whatsoever. It was nowhere to be found. Vanished into thin air. I EVEN tidied up some bits of shed to look for it; still no luck. :(
Progress today:
ARP flywheel bolts arrived in the mail
MAFless tuned, VATSS disabled PCM arrived in the mail
Bought a torque wrench
Flywheel installed - ARP bolts are awesome.
Lifted the motor off the bench to trial fit the mounts and K frame

Thought it was too easy, too much sump clearance... found out I had the mounts on the wrong sides :(
Roughly installed clutch, having no idea what I was doing, and minus 1 bolt :(

Not so much driveline progress today but the interior had to start coming together at some point
Installed manual pedal box, lots of stumbling points that soaked up too many hours.. was midday before it was in for the final time.
You can just see in this pic the fitting from the clutch master cylinder sticking through my hacked up firewall clutch grommet.. I need to find a grommet for the hole above it.. some split convoluted tube might do for now to keep the rubber line from sawing itself open

Cleaned up the rest of the mulberry trim pieces
Removed a pile more sound deadener from the firewall (bit left in the middle, too hard to get at with HVAC in the way)
Began installing more trim pieces to complete the dash area.. being fussy and obsessive this took a loooong time to get right and I'm still pissed off by at least 10 individual aspects of it all. But they're problems for another day. Steering column trims have shattered mounts so I spent far too long cutting and glueing mounts from the blue set onto the purple set... Probably won't even survive the installation but I'll find out for sure tomorrow night.
I love how all the trim panels change colour differently over 20 years. Fuuuuuu....

Separated engine and gearbox again to clearance the gearbox for starter motor fitment, didn't grind anything yet because at 10pm I think that'd be stretching the friendship with the neighbours..

one of my favourite VN's was the guy who put the carbied LS1 into the taxi yellow VN and turboed it. awesome and insane... I always rated VN's as such a better early model then the VL, the VN looks smoother, handled better, nicer interior...

Cleaned down the motor and box SUPER quickly... no time for cleaning, it's not going in to look pretty :) (I must keep telling myself this so I don't get carried away and blow the time limit)
Finished relieving the T56 casing for the starter conversion, also enlarged the bottom air hole quite a bit. I will have to come up with a brilliant plan to block up the gap where the factory starter motor is meant to sit... can see straight in to the flywheel from the forward side and I'm not happy with that.
I fitted the motor and box together for possibly (hopefully) the final time this evening.
I find myself wondering why the CAE starter relocation kit only came with 6 bolts to hold the setup together when there are 8 holes from factory.... I figure an intelligently placed six will do fine until I get to a bolt shop and dig up another pair.

Sam have you tried the extractors on in the car. I am fitting an Ls2 into a VS and trial fitted everything before I sent it to get painted, left hand extractors no problems, had to lightly flatten a small section on the drivers side set where it was coming into contact with the edge of the chassis rail.
A tip when putting them in, slide drivers side extractors in before the engine is lowered onto the engine mount or it's impossible to get in. left side is okay.
sam do you have to get a tail shaft made??? or did it come with the kit ? if you have to get one made dont use that rubber donut , throw it to the alpacas :dancenana:
