Agree the resale isn't great for SV6, I think this is partly due to ex rentals that are around, there are 2010 SV6's around for under $24,000 da, and that's with the dealer paying your rego transfer fee. Equivalent of paying $23,000 private sale. The dealer would also presumably be paying about $2,000 in GST, so as a trade in they are worth less than $20K. These cars are about 18 months old and new price for a new SV6 auto, with metallic pant is about $38,500.......so as a trade in they have depreciated about 50% in 18 months.
The upside is if you buy one of these, they are good value compared to new and the worst of the depreciation is already done.

Never driven a manual SV6 but the auto's I have I found uninspiring, thrashy and way to peaky to get any decent momentum occurring.

The new V8 models all have the TR6060 gearbox.. Its a good thing compared to the earlier MM6 of the VT-VZ, era Holdens. You won't have a problem with it

Are you sure? I thought that was just the HSVs and the Holdens have the T56 still?

I should clarify I have a 2010 SIDI 210Kw 6 speed auto.

Having driven the SIDI model against the non-SIDI on the track back to back the SIDI definitely is punchier and has a better top end.

My little brother went looking for an SV6 ute M6 for his first car and everyone he looked at had a deposit down for full asking price within 30min of him checking the car out.
P platers have gone mad for the VE SV6 utes and I really don't think you would have trouble selling it. He ended up with a 2008 SV6 ute 60th Ann with 27,000km for $26,500. An hour after he agreed to purchase the car some guy called up and offered the seller to match what ever offer my brother made plus an extra $1000.00, it was lucky the seller was a genuine person and stuck to her word.
Now consider 2008 is now 4 years old and purchase price new would have been around $30-$32k that is pretty good resale value!

However personally I couldn't live without my V8 and would be stretching the budget as much as I could to step up into an ss.

Well I just took an ss manual for a test drive...

All I can say is

OMG

I've never driven a v8 but I am 100% a convert after just one drive! The power and sound is just insane. Paid 4.5k extra and got it!

Only thing its a custom build whichll take 6 weeks to deliver and they want me to pre trade in but they'll provide me with a demo sv6 until my car comes. Is that normal? They said they can't offer a trade for that far into the future.

IMO.Not sure if it "normal practice"but the dealer would be concerned you may have "problems" with your trade while you are waiting,not sure about if you change your mind while waiting if you have a contract,if they have your car it could be hard to get out of the buy Especially if they wholesale it.
As long as the yard is responsible for any mechanical problems with the loan car you should be ok.It could work out better for you as it protects you against any unforseen mechanical problems or an accident with your car
Who is the dealer?
I am thinking about trading my SS as my kid wants a P plate friendly car so I will probably trade in on a SS ute and buy her a 250 GT Skyline coupe that I will drive during the week.I don't want the Skyline as my only car as I will miss the V8

Well done. I am surprised at people in here rating the SV6 as smoother and still powerful. The V8 i found so so much smoother and of course power wise is just effortlessly grunty compared to the SV6 which i found almost gravelly to the ear.

Yea I definitely understand the dealers side of it. Just hope I don't end up car less at the end of this somehow with a kinda low trade value (the trade value is a bit lower and the car discount is lower too). Anyway I'm sure they're more interested in actually selling the ss than gaining a small amount by doing the dodgy on my trade.

But yea the v8 was epic even stock!!

Have to agree here, If you keep logging on here you won't be able to control yourself. It will start of small with bolt ons and a tune than you will want more again and again and again.. :D
