A live axle is OK on a smooth surface, the wheels are always perpendicular to the road. It's when the road gets bumpy that an IRS system kills it because IRS has less "unsprung weight" for each wheel going over a bump .

Re: V8 Brutes engine specs??
The engines are all supplied and built by Craig Halsted from Cragsted Race Engines in Browns Plains, Brisbane.
They are stock specs bar Pacemaker headers and Breklee Exhaust, and have a few changes mainly for reliability. The Fords' Coyote engines are imported directly from the 'States by Halsted, have a different sump, oil-pump and pick-up, alloy subframe, PWR radiator and header tank, SS inductions intake, Motec ECU and are limited to 5800rpm. Weights are 1810 and 1815kg I think.
Holdens get a double-row timing chain and Motec ECU and are limited to 5900 rpm.
All the engines, the control wiring-loom, injectors, fuel rails, and ECU, are sealed and Halsted supplies the whole thing ready to go including the dyno sheet.
I think the Fords get a fully-floating conversion on the rear axles, both the diffs are spools, solid -centre button-clutch, bushes replaced by neoprene, DBA rotors and alloy hats, Brembo calipers, Quadrant Suspension Bilstein/coil-overs, Fords get a special tailshaft, wheels are Bob Jane, tyres controlled and marked, and almost everything is controlled and has to be supplied by specific suppliers.
All the engines are built and dynoed by Halsted and are supposed to be identical power/torque to within 2%.
There's an amazing number of detail restrictions but that's the guts of it.

Thanks Seldo, everything we needed to know.
Re: V8 Brutes engine specs??
Suspension is provided by Drummond motorsport this year adjustable coilover, (very robust units). i think brakes are AP racing will check tomorrow.
Jake,

Jake,
Yes - correct. I said Brembo calipers, but they are APs, and shocks are Bilstein coil-overs supplied by Drummond this year, not Quadrant as in the past (...senior moment...)

Suspension is drummond supplied by drummond and must admit a lot better product. After 2 major hits to the left hand front wheel, shock is still ok. Last year suspension probably would have been 2 inserts and two legs meaning about $4k so I am pretty happy with the drummond product. Lower control arms and caster bushes are from KMac and I wouldnt use them if we had a choice.
Re: V8 Brutes engine specs??
have a look at this link, it has the Technical regulations for utes.
http://www.v8utes.com.au/index.php?page_id=173
now i know its 2010, but its all i could find.

Hey mate how are things? What would you be using by choice.
Re: V8 Brutes engine specs??
I use drummond in my VZ. Have used them long before the utes and found them to be extremely good. Probably overkill for the street. If it was open probably go to ohlins or penske and have something custom made but then you are talking big money
