Quick question: Where does the other end of the Purge valve connect to on a VZ?
(Also the Fuel feed with the blue cap if anyone knows?)

^ Disregard ;)
Pulled the Clamshell off the VY and found em both!
Today!
Should be a good parts week, my PCM from Turbo Industries, HP Tuners from VCM Suite and an order of parts from Holden are all due to arrive, also have some gear coming from a mate in the USA that Holden couldn't supply...
Going to make a start on the Baffle/trap door setup for the Pan as I couldn't find anything on the market and the way it is will be an engine killer for track days.. :(
(guessing it's because there's no stock provision so nothing to bolt to in the Cross8 Sump)
Today Lunch!
Pulled the F Body sump and Improved Racing baffle off the engine then installed the stud extension from Holden for the CrossTrac pickup, turns out you have to remove the Auto drive plate to wiggle the sump into place due to the Axle tube through the middle of it hitting the Pickup tube...
This in turn is going to make a baffle for it "interesting", I pulled the stock baffle out of my VZ sedan sump and it's very basic so I might end up copying that and running an Oil accumulator again as my Canton remote adaptor from the F Body sump fits the new one.
Zipped into town and collected my PCM from the post office so that's another piece of the jigsaw sorted.(ended up with a "121")
Today End!
It was tight but I won in the end, ended up with a simple labyrinth baffle.

loving this thread mate keep up the good work and the updates.
Today!
Did the T&A on the Sump then started draining the V6 of fluids ready to pull it out when I get enthused ;)

Today End!
Did the 300 Km round trip to the Holden dealer today and sorted out the Mystery of the AWD LS Left side engine mount....
I bolted it up the other day only to find it was smack bang in line with the Axle tube, rang my Holden guy and he got me the "correct" one.... I arrived there today to collect it only to find it was identical to the one I already had, checked the Wagon but it's PCM mounts right in the way so you can't see diddly, went out to the workshop found a V8 car on a hoist and checked, there's a second set of holes further back so they mount the big cast iron bracket there and the actual mounts are assymetric...
(just been out in the shed fitting the mount back on to verify it's right now)
Also called in to VCM and picked up my "HPTuners" kit, on the way back I arranged to hit the Japanese place for dinner and caught up with a Bud, gotta love the wagon for this sort of driving!
Chasing a pair of stock engine pipes for this thing (ad in classifieds) also need to know what sort of pipe/hose goes from the right side rocker cover to the intake if anyone has a pic?
Feel free to jump in with questions/advice whatever, don't be concerned about taking my thread OT as it'll find it's way back sooner or later, I use threads as an interactive extension of my real shed and welcome any input.
(past threads on another forum have always ended up as 4000 reply monsters before I knock em on the head and start a fresh one)
To answer another of my own questions, the PCV pipe is small diameter poly tubing with a section of rubber on one end and a clip on the other, when I picked it up it didn't look like the 9mm tubing would connect to the 16mm barb on the intake....
Turns out the pipe goes inside and the clip thing on the outside over the barb...flying blind here as this is the first late model Holden I've owned and playing with Jap cars for the last decade or so means I haven't even seen under the bonnet of a VZ-V8 ;)
(hence my request for pics earlier in the thread)
Enoying the thread so far I'm keeping a close eye on this.
Today!
Having a bit of a "CBF'd" day, will try and get off my ass and go out after lunch and start pulling the engine out of the Tonner, anyone done this job before and have any tips?
"Plan" is to drop the K frame out under the car onto a trolly and wheel it out swap the V8 into place then wheel it all back in.
Today again!
So much for starting to pull the engine today....
Got a call from my parts guy so a quick trip down to Melbourne.

Tonight!
Just got back from a 140Km trip to collect a pair of stock engine pipes!
Thanks Dave was good meeting you guys!
Can anyone post how the cooling lines on a Vz 6.0L are plumbed?
ie: Rad overflow, Airbleed crossover between the heads and so on?
i pick up my adventra CX8 on thursday this coming week (cant bloody wait) sold my VE SS for a family car (and for an auto) and found a bargain with only 70,000km
can you use any catback that a wagon would use?
thanks mate, thats great news
will you be running the stock airbox? i will be, i'll have no chance maintaining an exposed filter like i did on my SS with the dus II OTRCAI
i was very impressed with the car overall, 3 months of driving the mrs swift and i broke .. fortunately i found the cx8 :)
Yep for this phase everything in the Tonner has to be stock....
http://members.optushome.com.au/ubermod/prog015.jpg
The V6 in my Tonner is the "reduced output" one :(
Thing will barely turn the tires on grass as it is, the Wagon by comparison is a ball :D
What CX8 did you get? (Vy or VZ? What colour?)
I bought a Quick Silver VYII
I cant find it anywhere but was there an update between VY-VYII, I read that maybe they swapped to electronic throttle body? i had a look under the hood but the throttle body looked much the same as my L98 except maybe a little bigger (didn't notice any throttle cables). tell you the truth i just expected it to have a cable throttle.
Under the hood it looked much the same as what AllWheelSlide posted with the VZ.
Does that mean its 250kw or 235kw?
Trip back was "interesting" dark wet unfamiliar road, just glad I was in the Whale it's very surefooted, missed the local Pub by 8 minutes for a feed as the kitchen closed at 8....
Thanks I don't foresee any real issues with the swap as it's all bolton but as posted above I have NFI what a stock VZ 6.0L looks like under the bonnet so there's a bit of deductive reasoning going on ;)
How did I miss this thread??
Great read so far, great job you are doing, watching this keenly.
Take heaps of pics.
Love your workshop, well setup for projects like this.
Thanks Cashie,
My projects have a way of getting out of control.....
This time I'm trying to NOT get carried away and stick to a bolton approach for most of it, ultimate goal is to build something that will be eligble for tarmac rallies/track days.
Dropping it down should result in a nice low CoG add some decent suspension and brakes then possibly some more power and it should be a fun toy.
I ran the L98 with a T04z in the Jap car for a total of 700 Km's before a suspension arm failed and killed it so I've seen this engines potential and the CrossTrac will mean it has a chance of hooking up.
I love the workshop it was the selling point for this property, been here 6 months now and am slowly getting things set up as I want it, I have to build a Mezzanine for storage and in 12 months will reassess the need/desire for a dyno.
Are there any issues lowering these, I always thought they had to sit high for the AWD setup?
The L98 is certainly an excellent engine, pretty underrated by those outside the Holden owners circles.
Your own dyno, holly sh1t, where will this all end, you could set up a LSx tuning business on the side.
Have you got any links for any of your other projects?
I asked the question awhile back without much success but I "believe" you can drop them a good deal before there are issues, the rear will get either a Wagon IRS or one out of an Adventra just depends on the final wheel/tire combo I choose.
I spent a decade or so playing with Turbo I-6's and managed to get 410rwkw out of the 3.0L at the end but then decided on a change of direction with the L98.
Been in contact with both Mainline and DynoDynamics and have the $$$ set aside, there are a few environmental issues to address here, I have an engineer mate helping suss all that out but I still have 6 months before I go/no go on it.
Not really looking to run the dyno as a business it's more for my own use as I'm a constant "fiddler", the I-6 logged 16+ hours of Dyno time and untold hours of road tuning before I was "happy" ;)
I don't really post the other projects due to some of the local legislation, that's part of the appeal of the CrossTrac project it's actually going to be legit for a change.
jacking them up is where most problems occur throwing off the geometry for the drive shafts etc
i wonder how the transmission would cope with 32" muddies on (thats if you could fit them)
starting to hate this thread, the more i read the more i want to throw into mine when it arrives haha .. hopefully it doesnt get to the point like my SS and throwing 15k at it
LOL my last project had 25k of engine management in it :D
Trying very HARD not to lose the plot this time ......

Today!
Made a start on the tear down, going slowly as I don't have a manual for this car and really don't want to damage/destroy parts removing them!
Here's a good illustration why a PWR "works" just the sheer mass of extra aluminium would be it over the stock VZ Rad.
Done enough for today just heading into town to pick up a Rad cap.

Looking good...
Thanks Cashie,
They didn't want the Transfer case to fall out it's bolted in 3>4 places then has an additional Steel cross member bolted in as well....
I'll see if I can make some more headway tomorrow.
Today!
Got as much done as I could then had to do a run into Town to buy a GM Fuel line tool as I don't have one, of course being in the Bush they stiffed me for what is just 2 pieces of plastic with a rivet in the middle but the alternative was to burn $50 of fuel and go buy it from one of my suppliers.....
I'm ready to drop the engine, trans and front subframe, CBF'd today so will attack it in the morning.
On the way back from town I stopped in at the post office and collected my box of bits from the USA :D.
Stop teasing, what's in the box?
Get lots of pics of the engine out job..
LOL sorry no tease, just some small parts I was missing/had modded for the last project that I couldn't get from Holden.
Coil looms, Air bleed crossover pipe between the heads and some 45 degree MSD boots so I can shorten the Plug leads I made to put the coils back on the rocker covers :)
Rgr on the many pics when I drop the engine, about the hardest part of this project will be pulling the dash to replace the entire main loom, I laid it out on the floor today to check some connectors and it's a LOT of wire!
I stupidly decided to totally rewire the last project and after putting 850 metres of Tefzal Milspec wire into it with a couple of 100 connectors I'm thinking this "should" be a little easier.....
