The price of the house is rarely the greatest expense of the overall purchase. The cost of the block of land is. It people couldn't afford these vast prices for land being paid, they wouldn't be that dear.

Having lived in the US and still having much of my family there I can say this fits in nicely with your ‘SNIFF, SNIFF, I SMELL FRESH BULLSHIT’ tag.
‘Dumbass’ Yanks don’t pay RRP anymore than we do, in fact I would say they beat the price down better than most Aussies have ever learnt too. Yanks are pretty good at loudly standing up for themselves.
For the most part, we pay more for goods and services in Australia because we are willing to.
.
This guy knows. Dealing extensively in the US auto market I can tell you without blinking that the US has the most agressive discounting structure I have ever witnessed. Publicly companies quote MSRP prices, however the majority of them have a price matching deal which leads to massive discounting and cost slashing for a single sale. Its actually too agressive in most instances and invariably does in a lot of small business there. The US is the place 'We wont be beaten on price' comes from. Pays to know what you are talking about before you post :)
Wrong. Bought a brand new GTR straight out of Japan before they were released here, saved $40K over the Aussie rip and got a higher spec car to boot
You can stick to your tricycle, those of us that understand the industry can save the money by not funding the Aussie 'lets roll the mugs' car-sellers cartel
The amount of profit being made on new cars sold here is simply staggering which makes constant taxpayer handouts even more bewildering.
'Money for Jam' its called :)
You've said your opinion, I've said mine. We'll just have to take your word on it that you're not full of the smelly brown stuff hey. ;)
And yes, there are PLENTY of stories over the years about yanks paying well above RRP for a desirable new car. Out here, we tend to go on a waiting list instead. :)
Perhaps you lived in a cave or something, and missed some of what goes on...
Perhaps you can give us a second or a third genuine example whilst you're "on a roll" hey Martin...
I've given several reasons earlier why US cars are often lower priced than Aus cars. You and others can bat off over your own versions of the story if it makes you chubby...
US cars are lower priced, as the customers there wont be taken advantage of. The proof is that the same Commodore built in the same Aussie plant that sold much lower volumes in the US was some 40% cheaper than when sold in Australia.
While big fat margins pay your handsome salary Davo, they do little for the rest of us.
Case closed :)
And a nice cave it was, heaps cheaper than the caves here.
Go and live in the US for a few years (not a few weeks) and you may learn it is a fact, Yanks chase price like no Aussies ever do. The good thing is we are getting wiser and starting to learn how to do it here.
Oh and if you do decide to live there for a while to enlighten your world, don’t do what you did in Cairns while on a week’s holiday and look through a Real Estate Agents window and tell everyone on the Forum that the price of housing is going down. Then swear black and blue and argue with people in the Real Estate game that they are wrong and you are right. I’m still waiting for those prices to come down.
I love your lack of integrity, just say and make up anything as you go for the sake of trying to win an argument. Don’t ever change, I love your posts just the way they are, it makes everyone else look intelligent.
I see you’ve changed you signature tag at the bottom, it sounds just like me, I have true happiness and a satisfying life, maybe you should take a leaf out of your own book.

Davo, see above. Take it from someone who has actually done it rather than Googled it
And tomorrow apparently it comes (according to news reports as of now) that Holden are going to axe the second shift at Elizabeth and start to downsize.
At the same time our PM is on the radio stating how wonderful it is that our dollar is high and she is so glad it is going to stay that way for many years to come and that Australia is such an economic safehaven, and our economy is so wonderful. Pity anything we make is too expensive for anyone to buy.
Toyota mass lay offs, Holden scaling back, and another Aussie Icon Mortein/Dettol announcing today its shutting down all local manufacturing and move it offshore.
Good we are going so great as a country :(

i think the casuals and temps are being cut tonight
Glad our dollar is up, because she a clown. exports too expensive, imports far cheaper. So we will have more money going out of the country than into it
Let's not forget woolworths has knifed its dick smith stores and mortein/dettol
I guess today we can look forward to Ford's retreat.
Seriously I would not be surprised!
This is so deeply disturbing it's not funny.
Since Im old I was listening to ABC News Radio on the way to work this morning (6am!) and the Auto Chamber of Commerce head honcho was saying that due to the carbon tax the cost of each car Holden makes here was going to increase $400 or so per unit. Doesnt sound like much but on a 450 a day volume thats additional cost of $180,000 a day, or $900,000 a week or $43,200,000 a year going on a 48 week working year.
So giving Holden $200,000,000 to keep it going is only going to offset the effect of the Carbon Tax for just over four years. Expect to have to dig and pay again then. Its a ridiculous state of affairs for manufacturing in Aussie :(
Dam you gillard don't kill off our aussie cars!!! bring back the green car fund to try and lower our co2 instead of just taxing everyone to pay for your stuffups.
Holden and Commodore our favourite car are doomed while Gillard and the actual real PM Bob Brown from the Greens is running Australia. No room for 6.0 V8s in their world, only lesbians buffing taxpayer funded surboards as they are Carbon Neutral :(
Yet you have the VYTonners of the world telling us how good it is.............politics will bury Commodore just you watch this space.......gone forever. Give it a couple of years. Carbon tax working for Aussies, here it is
