this should be fun!!
The L98 has a 2Bar Map sensor in it "just in case" ;)
ah i read it wrong. Nice one, will be quite a weapon and great out in the country.
Extra mass in the Whale makes it a great tow car (ignoring the 2x fuel consumption at cruise) ;)
At 110kmh you don't even know it's there, fitting the hands free and electric brakes has "fixed" my Trac....
Got a bud at Holden chasing up the parts I need for the 6.0L>Tonner swap, I want to run it over a weighbridge before I start, then again at each major change.
Yesterday/Today!
The boys were up yesterday so we took the Whale for a fireroad blast :D
Got back and left it parked a bit nose down, it was vomiting coolant :(
It was low 30c here and we had been going fairly hard at high load low speeds but still...
Pulled the Rad cap and noticed 0 pressure, topped up the Coolant and it did it again after a few minutes run time...
Took the cap into the shed and blew some pressure into it and it farted like it was working, I then washed it off and blew air into it with my mouth and it had 0 seal...
Trip into the parts store in town yielded 0 new caps so it was a trip down to a Holden dealer to collect one, first thing I noticed was the extra valve in the base of the cap that some genius had removed!!
What I think happened is the Water Pump was pissing coolant when I bought it and so they could drive the car for repairs/get rid of it the "genius" removed the valve to stop the cooling system pressurising.
New cap and all is well!
(my "guess" with this car is they took it in for repairs got quoted some stupid amount and as it's a company car the lease would have been up so they sold it off to trade, I then snapped it up at a stupidly low price as a parts car)
Tonight!
Ran the Whale down to Melbourne for a meal out with the boys!
As a direct comparison to the Cross6 it's quieter, smoother and so much more effortless, this is NOT to say the Cross6 is bad in any way (other than economy/power from the V6) just that the Whale is that much better :D
Just need to crank the low beams up a few degrees so they're NOT pointed at the road under the bumper and it'll be sweet!
Today!
Seriously cool set of adjusters on the Low beams!
(Keeping in mind I came from 13 years of high end annoyingly complex expensive impossible to work on Jap cars)
Good to see this project moving foward. Maybe you should get this moved to the my ride section, may get more people involved!!!
Thanks for the post, Should be fine where it is I'm happy for it to be a bit under the radar ;)
I have 2>3 weeks work in the machine shop now I have it all installed then another week or so building a Mezzanine, shelves and racks then I'll make a start on the Cross 6, really pleased with the Addy it's a brilliant car and a perfect DD for up here.
I found a good description of how the Transfer case actually achieves it's torqe split so I no longer have to pull one of mine apart to work it out!
I'd really like a TrueTrac/Quaife diff in each end of the Cross6 but I have to see if I can find one that will be a direct fit (it's a ZF Diff I believe so there should be something either BMW or Merc available)
Rear diff is easy as I'll be running an Adventra IRS in the rear.
Finished up modding the lightweight (220+Kg's lighter than the Steel tray) Al Tray for the Tonner and have been stockpiling the parts needed for the V8 swap and educating myself on the electronics required.
Plan at this point is an E38 PCM+ HP Tuners, what I do need if possible is a good detailed pic of a V8 VZ engine bay so I can order in the parts that differ to the V6.
Have searched online and can't find anything useful, my Adventra is a VY so pretty useless for comparison.

Nice car dude should be a fun drive when it's finished.
Looks like a fair bit of work ahead of you so best of luck with it all :)
Thanks Michael, it's all pretty much a bolt on job so not too stressed about it and compared to some of the past projects it'll be a walk in the park!
I was a bit off put by the Cross6's weight as I'd been mislead by the Rego papers....
Turns out in stock form it was 40Kg's heavier than the Adventra
Big bonus with it though will be a very low CoG once it's dropped and the wide track "should" make it very stable for track days.
Tossing up shortening the wheelbase when I install the IRS as it's built on the Crewman wheelbase so a good deal longer than the Adventra..
Some VZ V8 engine bay pics would help right about now if you've seen any around?
