Im sorry but half the fun is winding your car right out.... Not to mention loading your car up in the top of 3rd and 4th is far more demanding and a true test of your equipment.

On the 1/8th I am right on the limiter in 3rd, I don't think it is worth travelling another 4+ hrs just to grab 1 more gear. As far as testing equipment goes if it's gunna break it will break regardless if it's on the 1/8th or 1/4. A shit combo will always be a shit combo if anything it is amplified in 1/8th mile racing where reaction times and consistancy are everything...
As I said before it's all we have at the moment like it or not, its a cheap weekend of fun v's travelling interstate with all the added costs.

disappointing that it has been reduced to an 1/8th mile event but what can you do? would like to see what my car would do over the 1/4 and if it would be as consistant as it is over the 1/8th mile. i am working the weekend this is scheduled so here's hoping the next might be extended to a 1/4 mile event!
for the knockers of the 1/8th mile, i say support what you have! be it at Tailem Bend, Whyalla or Coonawarra. if you don't go because the length has been reduced then you don't deserve a track full stop
To turn up and support cutting the track back from 400m last time out to 200m this time out is sending totally the wrong message for those that want 1/4 mile racing in this state. If its your cup of tea, then good for you - its not for everyone, and if 200m is the future then I am one of many that dont care whether we have a track at all :teach:
There are - much - more exciting things to do in cars in SA IMO
This isnt about travelling another 4 hours. This is about having a full 1/4 mile track / event cut back to 1/8 mile.
They are going backwards not forwards. There has been promises of fully timed 1/4 mile DRAG racing at Tailem Bend..... Supporting it as an 1/8th sends the wrong message in my opinion.
P.S. I was at the first 1/4 mile event they held at Tailem in 2010. Racing and supporting it.
No half ass boring 1/8 mile for me either. I wont be out there. If it was 1/4 mile then yes I definitely would attend.
I like corners.
on the upside you can turn off at the 200m point and have a bit of fun on the skidpan:stick:
Just read on their Facebook page,
"1/8 Sprint Practice 21 August 2011
Just a reminder that this event is for road registrable vehicles (any vehicles with defects will not be allowed to run). It is aimed at vehicles that run above 7.7 (due to ANDRA requirements - licence etc). If you run a time below 7.7 you will be asked to adjust all other runs to be greater that 7.7"
Seriously do they want some support or not?
CAMS did a better job last year with the 400m sprints imo.
Are they supplying NoDoz to keep the drivers awake.....
Looks like the Sporting Car Club of SA have a much bigger set of pineapples than ANDRA
Just come home, was quite a good day up there.
I only watched today, who else went out? :)
Saw a few cars running 7.5 and under, there was a silver-grey TT HSV Coupe 6.0 litre (Willall tuned) running which did a 7.6 just before I left, they just spoke to him quickly, it seemed like they were just going through the motions and not overly concerned. They told him he could run again.
