Leaking battery

I didn't do it on my own but I could of. Looking at it this morning I will take it out and re-bend the bracket myself to make it neater. I took advantage of their free installation. The advantage of this was that if it didn't fit like wonky's did he had the other batteries in stock and I wouldn't have to return anything. The top mounting bracket needs to be bent at each end to accommodate the taller battery. It is an easy change. A vice or hammer / mallet is all that is required. The inboard end of top bracket is already bent downward to meet the top of the battery, so this gets straightened out a bit and the outer end of the bracket needs to be bent up to allow room for the battery. Before doing this I was looking at installing the police 2nd Battery option, but no one at Holden would commit if it was compatible with the HSV LPi.

I'd check the charger too, as boiling a battery with these multi stage chargers is unheard of ...... unless you really overfilled , but still

hopefully you wont need to use the CTEK at all with new battery.

That is what I thought, CTEK is not that old and hardly been used. I did put a lot of water in though. I have it back on now with a jar under the vent hose just to see what happens.

Stick a mutli meter/volt test test and see what it's pumping out

CTECK has finished 7 stages already and battery is stuck on 68.8 percent, dropped another 50ml of clear water into the can as well. Was hoping to keep it alive for another 2 weeks as the place I want to buy the Optima from ($330 delivered) is closed until then.

Rod you don't reckon it will last a few weeks? Does it hesitate at all to start? Stick it in eng mode as IJ mentioned above & keep an eye on the voltage.

It starts the car fine Mick, so long as I do not ask it to do anything else. I started it 3 times in around 30 minutes earlier today whilst out and about. Was not confident though and had the daughter standing by to come get me :)

Guess you can either disconnect a leg each night over the next coupla weeks & put her on the CTek & carry a set of jumper leads...may get you through!

One more Q, is there anything I need to look out for when changing battery in these things, or is it just out with the old and in with the new? I know I did not do anything special on the old VT2 when I changed the battery.

Yeah, might just take the risk I reckon. Both times I have put the CTEK on it has purged, so not keen to use that until I get a chance to voltage test it, although I guess it could be just finding it's happy level?

As long as the new Batt fits the purpose & retained properly there shoudn't be an issue.

Yeah just make sure it's not over filled, trickle charge is good.

I don't understand why you would buy a battery that has the incorrect dimensions and have to make a modification for it to fit. Why not buy the same type of battery(optima), with the correct dimensions?
