Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
Thanks again guys,
etrocket - on the street, once it hits about 3 odd thousand rpm in first gear it starts spinning up, however on the strip i dont think it is. I had put that down to more grip at the strip. Maybe it is spinning but I cant hear it.
Also, with the higher gearing comment, do certain cams perform better than others with a change of diff ratio?
I have been changing as close to the redline of 6800rpm as i can however my dyno chart doesnt show the torque/power past about 5600rpm so im not sure on the actual power it is making above that. I'm assuming I should rev right out to redline?
-
Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
Why does it stop at 5600? Something not right. your 300 odd kw would have been at peak rpm
-
Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
Your looking at your torque curve mate making peak about 6200rpm
-
Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
I think his saying both the torque and power graphs stop at 5600.
???????????

Post number 214, his dyno sheet

Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
Thanks for clearing that up - would you need to rev to 6800 with that dyno sheet?
-
Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
Etrocket - that's my question. It's hard to extrapolate that graph out to 6800.

Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
DREADVE - sorry for the confusion however please disregard the rpm numbers on the dyno graph as they are incorrect (as told by my tuner). The km/hr is correct on the graph, so on the graph 215km/hr isnt actually 6210rpm, it should be 5800rpm.

Yes I think your sheet has a fault, but No buddy, with a stock 3.46 diff behind a 6 speed manual .....
As quoted on your dyno sheet 215 kmh would be around 6500rpm. ;)
If you have a close look at your dyno sheet you will also notice thet the speeds and kph ratios are about the same all the way up (EXCEPT the last number, which I agree is wrong.)
the graph with 175kph@5560rpm, 195kph@6140rpm untill the last line at 215 kph.... the rpm speed should have gone up more than 70rpm for that extra 20kph.
Here is a link to a page with speeds and diff gears, I know it was about earlier models but I think your rolling diameter should be around the same so it should be close...
check out post number 9 for the 3.46 diff with 6 speed manual. (4th gear is still 1-1 ratio AFAIK)
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...-11-diff-gears
Think about it, there is no way the car could travel at 215kmh in 4th gear in a manual at 5,800rpm and with your camshaft the engine should pull a strong 6500rpm anyway. Cheers.

I've had a look at that thread, and also calculated my rolling tyre size to be 2132mm. In the diff gear thread they have based everything off 1990mm. So at any given rpm my car would be going faster due to a larger tyre. 2132 / 1990 = 1.071. From the diff gear thread top speed in 4th gear is 214km/h (6200rpm) so therefore my car would be going slightly faster than that due to large tyre. 214km/h x 1.071 = 229km/h @ 6200rpm. If we do a quick calculation to work out what rpm my car is doing at 215km/h we would come up with 5820rpm (6200rpm / 229km/h x 215km/h = 5820rpm). This matches with my speedo of 37km/h at 1000rpm on the road.
Sorry to get into all the maths and complicate things but I am still sticking by my theory that my dyno chart stops at 215km/h which is equal to 5820rpm.
Having said that, thanks for pointing out that the dyno graph rpm numbers aren't going up in equal amounts.

Reading this post of yours again, I reckon your tuner might have said or meant 6,800rpm and not 5,800 rpm at the top of the graph.
Edit... Yeah that adds up
using calculator if previous graph point on the dyno sheet is correct ie 195kmh @ 6140rpm ... 195kmh divided by 6140 = 0.0317589 then if you multiply that again by 215(kmh) you get 6828.1635(rpm)
So it must be 6,800 rpm at 215 kmh

Good night at WSID. Beautiful weather.
Put some softer springs in the rear of my ute and dropped the tyres to 27psi giving me a 13.0 @ 172km/h (2.0 60ft)
Pretty happy with the improvements on the night. Knock another 10th or so off the 60ft and it'll be running the times I expected. Speed is still low which is a mystery however it's going back on the dyno to do a power vs rpm plot so will be interesting to see what power it makes on a new dyno (same brand, same operator).
My 09.5 SS Ute
OTR
Extractors
High flow cats
3" cat back
25% UDP
Mild cam
Aftermarket clutch
Rip shifter
Stock tyres on 19" SSV wheels @ 27psi
326 RWKW
663nm
13.0 @ 172km/h
2.039 60ft

That's slow for all that power. Either the dyno is quite optimistic or you're having problems getting the power down. My MY9.5 SSV A6 ute ran 12.83 @ 111.6mph (179.6kph) with only 260rwkw (3.45 diff).

These cars are slow. We spend $$$ on these whether Bolton or cammed and we still just only get high 12's.

Street tyres, drag radials or slicks?

If you are running high 12s in a cammed VE, either you can't drive, setup is woeful for the strip, wrong cam or a mix of all of these.
If I can actually get a run in without breaking a driveshaft it won't be running a high 12....

Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
theres 100 cars in the 12 bracket compared to the 10 that are in the 11 bracket all ranging from 270 - 340kw

My 12.83 pre cam was on 245/40/18 Falken Azenis which are technically a semi slick but in our experience seem to be a circuit tyre more than a drag tyre. With my previous SSV A6 sedan (also 260rwkw but stock diff) we did a best of 13.17 @ 108.2 and best 60ft of 2.08 on SSV tyres and rims. On the Azenis even though the ET was much better due mainly to the diff the best 60ft was only 1/20th of a sec better at 2.03.
The other Saturday at Heathcote, now with small cam and 283rwkw we again matched the 12.83, this time at 111.1mph, but were only running on fairly worn 18" Potenzas on SS rims (due to my brainfade ) and into a strong headwind. Due to the torque the cam produces the only way we could get traction was with ESP on and it flashing on most or all of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even the change to 4th. 60ft were all around 2.2 so I need a set of ET Streets before trying again. At the 2011 Shootout (post cam) we ran the Azenis and gave up after a high 13 and a 14+ sec run as could not get traction - was going sideways on the change to 4th!!

we'll i ran (and many othe ppl too) 12.86 @108.5mph, bolt ons only, on street tires 6 months back.. now thats pretty good if u ask me... all up cost me less than 6k
but... if and when i cam my car i will be expecting low 12s or high 11s... if i still run mid to high 12s then i wont be happy and will say what a waist of $$

Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
6k on a g6et will net 11.5-11.9. That's all I'm saying
-
Re: VE 1/4 mile times only data base. - Part 1
I ran a 12.2 in mine on a run where i farked the driveshaft and diff - better setup now motor wise, so would expect an 11

Probably true but what counts to me 364 days of the year when I don't drag is the lovely V8 burble. My car is fast enough for me now.

Who races at WSID on a wednesday night that is fairly experienced? I'm looking for someone to possibly take my car down the strip a few times to find out why it isn't running close to 115mph considering its a cammed VE.
PS. Its manual on street tyres

Well not me.....lol
Yours shouldn't be running 115mph - it should be running 118-119mph IMHO - something is very wrong - maybe get someone to log a run that you are doing - maybe you are having a big throttle lift off or gear changes or slow?

Here is a vid I put on youtube to I could show a mate my run.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQVv85UarO4
Redline is 6800rpm, peak torque is at about 4500rpm, trying to launch at that riding the clutch, peak power is 5800rpm i think, flat changing 3rd to 4th gear.
Let me know what you think.

You really got to get your hands on some mickey Thompson drag radials, the track isn't prepared that crash hot on street meetings which result to really bad traction issues.
Also I remove my filter from my otr,put a half a bottle of nulon octane booster and go there on a little above a 1/4 of a tank of fuel.
Next time you go down pm me.
