Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Hi Guys,
Some awesome beasts on this thread, I was in Dubai recently and was fortunate enough to see that WH with the scissors, a little too much bling for me and those rear doors would be a bastard at the shopping centre, still looks fuggin awesome though.
Have always loved the barges, started with Fairlanes but switched to the Statesman when Ford stopped making 5.8ltr Fairlanes, here's some pics of mine.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Hey Dickie Knee, how much did that vent excerise cost? I'm more than a little interested in doing the same to my WH Grange.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Personally I don't think any of them look as good as your current wheels Mr Fist.
-
Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Really? Are you of the "less is more" school of spoke design?:lol:I know a lot of guys like the 5 soke design for the asymmetrical look and the simplicity of few spokes. I also like the current VZ R8 wheels and the VZ Senator wheels, completely different to each other but I still like 'em...
-
Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
The current VZ Senator wheels are probably my favourite Holden/HSV wheel ever.
If not right up there in the top few, along with the VY GTS wheels.
Wheels are personal taste, and I really like the ones you have on now.
The third set of those three you posted would be my choice of that selection though.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
It seems we have pretty similar taste in wheels!

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Jase, what size were the tyres on the 20's on the Statie, 225x35?

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Sorry mate still havent checked if I get home early enough tonight I'll post em up havent had the chance to drive it for a while too busy with work.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Hey SATANFIST checked tyres 225 on front ad 245 on rear. Its tight the suspension has settled a little since the pics the only slight rub is in nreverse at full lock and moving it just rubs the plastic inner guard. Hope this helps :woohoo:

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
That looks fantastic Satansfist .... great choice of wheels that really suit the car

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Congrats mate - looks deluxe

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
The rims look huge on the Stato. Nice looking car you have there. Luxury plus.... :nyuk:

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
I have a question for ALL you barge owners. With the luxury cruising lounge room ride, does all these mega wheels & suspension defeat the purpose of the barge's renowned level of soft, supple smooth ride quality, don't get me wrong they look a million bucks I'm just curious.

Hope you enjoy...
Oooooh YEAH!

Short answer is yes....to an extent. But it depends how fussy you are. My mate has a Grange and came very close to swapping back to 17s or 18s in order to improve the ride.....but he is an old sheila, and came from a Jag and a Lexus. :limpy:

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
That looks GOLD ... love it. The wheels suit the car really well.
The only thing that turns me off 20s is the need to go to 225s without serious suspension mods. I will have 265s on the rear of the Coupe without touching a thing. Hopefully they will fix that up with the new one.

I have Front coilovers and Bilstein shocks with slightly stiffer King lows in the rear and most ppl tell me how well it rides. I dont get any understeer and it corners very well. I hate really harsh rides but this is perfect.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
I found the standard suspension made it wallow like a hippo in the last waterhole of summer! I think the extra length accentuates the forward/backward motion when you go over bumps. Lowered with stiffer suspension just tightened up the handling noticably without compromising the ride quality too much...I'd rather feel what the car was doing when pushing on than have a vague perception of the handling.
So, uh, in short I'd say up to a point, no, it doesn't have an adverse effect.
And NickS, I agree totally, I wasn't happy about actually going down a size in tyre width but like you say without major suspension changes it's the only way it will work..coil-overs, guard rolling, etc may be next on the list after a bit of FI...:burnout:

that is the ducks nuts. really don't know what to replace the R8 with now after seeing some really nice barges, i thought i was set on a Z Clubby or possibly a VE SS but now you have just confused the issue.

Re: The Lux-0-Barge Gallery
Sorry people, but the WK has it, IN MY OPINION, of course.
Ilove my WK cos it looks tough, phat, neat, and very Classy.
Wouldnt trade it for anything in the world, mmmm....cept for maybe a WL Grange.LOL...one day.!
