Thanks!

My Addy is without fogs (VY CX8) however when i bought it the dealer said all i needed was the lights, a relay and new switch (pull out type, which mine isnt). The wiring is all there.
Thanks Driver, ditto on the CX8 so looks like an easy upgrade for that car!
Just have to get a relay and a couple of the switches and of course the lights for both cars!

Today!
Fitted the new HVAC unit, much easier than the last car!
Finished washing the engine bay and clipped/connected the new harness, also sorted the relay issue..

This is going to look like new when you are finished!!
Did you sort out the fog lights switch? Every VY/VZ I have seen has the push/pull type switch but it appears some are saying the Cross6/8 may be different?
I'll detail the subframe when I pull it to install the engine, the car only has 60k Km's on it and apart from being missused by a tradie is mint, no accidents ever :)
I'll upspec to dwell control on the intermittant wipers while I'm at it and grab a 6 disc stereo, think I'll see if I can get the push/pull headlight switches for the fogs, I like the idea of being able to turn them on/off as needed.
(whole idea of fogs is they're low so you don't get glare back in the screen, having low beams on defeats this)
I think it's only VZ Adventras that are hard wired?
Just waiting on a couple of sensors/hoses/clips from Holden and a part to beef up the trans from the USA, for phase #2 I'll rebuild the trans with all the good bits available but for now I'll just strengthen the drum.
Sorry. Brain fart on my behalf my vz adv lx8 has a pull/push switch on the rotation light selector. So I was wrong. Just got home from canberra tonight and checked. Must have been confused after all weekend with my brothers berlina - Doh!
Today!
Reassemble the interior day....
Going slowly as I'm cleaning each part before refitting and to double check the loom routing I pulled the Wagon apart a little ;)
(also wanted to check some of the Climate control bits as the Tonner never had it so I haven't actually "seen" where it all goes)
Put it back together and headed into town for lunch at the bakery, all part of my "don't be an OCD nutjob" on this build!
Not much to show yet so no pic.
End of week!
Got a bit more done this afternoon :)

coming up good :goodjob:
Thanks DD it's coming along well, a bit slow but I'm in no rush to finish it!
It's a bit of a Rubick's Cube, there's an order that the dash needs to go together in or you spend time unbolting things... doh!
Still waiting on a few small parts so I'll just keep plodding away at it, veg weekend watching the V8's in NZ :D
Hopefully <fingers crossed> this will get rid of the squeak in the dash it's had since I got it!
LOL or a pair of earrings ;)
Been playing cars for a bit over 30 years now, still learning as I go!
"finished" won't be until the end of the year, for now it'll just be a dead stock V8 AWD Tonner but "should" be a blast compared to the V6, I guess I should qualify that as the V6 had a very effective ESP that meant NO SIDEDWAYS even on wet grass.....
I used to bag on the car for being guttless compared to the V8 wagon! :D
Today!
Just running some wires that "should" have gone in before the dash was installed... DOH!
I'm just about finished on them then can install the console and a few other bits before it comes to a halt while I wait on parts..
Today End!
My Non leather wheel for the Wagon arrived today so I ditched the wiring job and installed that then went into town to check mail, my Trans parts from the US were there so now it's just bits and pieces from Holden left to turn up and it's good to finish :)
Hey what size tyres are you gunna run ?
My advice to you is that there is nothing off-road in 18 inch
and to stick to 17 inch or even 16's .
must have missed the R/T bit :goodjob:
LOL yep about the only offroad it'll do will be my driveway :)
(means I can slam it as well)
If I were to build it for offroad I'd look at a dual range transfer case and some BIG tires (seen the pic with no engine a few pages back? pg #12)
I've already done that to mine ....... lol

LMAO!
Cool post some more pics please!

Today!
Spent part of the morning sorting out my fluro leadlight as it stopped working yesterday...
Pulled the one out of my bead blasting cabinet so I could try the starter and tube to rule them out bzzz nuh nothing that easy, swapped the ballast and it fired up, figured I don't need the bead blaster at the moment so I'll swap the long lead over and replace the ballast later....
bzzzz #2, no go, check the lead with the meter and yep it's broken... ARGGHH ;)
Trim out the broken section of lead wire it up reassemble both lights and refit the one in the BB and it's all good, went back to the wiring on the car I ditched yesterday and finished it off, after lunch I'll install the console then see about pulling the front out of both Auto's and swapping the parts around and fitting the reinforcing kit.
I have to make the run to Holden tomorrow as there was a miscommunication that would mean I'd be lucky to get my parts by Friday..
Today End!
1 step forward, 2 sideways and 1 backwards... pretty normal day all in all ;)
Finished off the Console and started installing it then noticed I'd broken a couple of clips on the Shifter base pulling it out, I HATE rattles/squeaks in cars so rang up and ordered a replacement part so that puts the trip to Holden off by a day...
Another "got-ya" is the plastic pegs that drive the shift indicator, if you don't position them right one will break off... (ordered that as well) also getting a new shift boot, mine for a 6 year old car is in surprisingly bad condition.
Pulled the front out of the V8 Donor trans, looks like it came from a swamp buggy that didn't float or ever have it's fluid changed! (not having a shot at ya Dave just an observation as the hard parts I need from it are fine)
Another "got-ya" is the trans reinforcement kit requires an older style Aluminium Forward Piston to work and as the V8 trans is a late model thing it has the Steel piston that won't work..... I'll see if I can source one here if not I'll chase one up in the USA again...
Today p.s.
Place in the US does a Billet forward piston and a torrington bearing for that location so just e-mailed my mate to get one! ;)
(gotta love the fact I can buy all this off the shelf instead of hours at the CNC making it)
Sounds like you are still making progress..
Where's today's pics?:1peek:
Yep, Tefzel is a bit of overkill, use a bit of that at work. Should hold up well and handle a bit of heat from the mobile phone.. :)
Today!
Clean up day here so I have room to do the Trans work needed then I can look at bolting the engine in :)
Today End!
Raining and I'm having a bit of a CBF'd day, got enough done and have knocked off!

Today End!
Headed out early this morning, couldn't see the end of the hood for fog!
Picked up a bunch of parts then did some running around in Melbourne grabbed Macca's for lunch (the new Brownie bites are awesome)
Got home and had a bit of a fiddle installing some of the new parts, still need to track down a pair of the VZ split engine covers...

awesome work... all i can say is you must love this car as i would hate to see your parts bill :)
:lmao: here MrHat
Today's effort was one of the less intense $$$ wise, rocker covers hurt a bit as I milled the Coil posts off the old ones for clearence in the last car (yes it was that tight)...
Hopefully someone will see this and has a pair of engine covers they'd like to part with, I've posted an WTB ad just waiting for it to be approved!
With any luck the rest of the Auto parts will be here next week then I can reassemble it bolt it to the engine and into the car :D
Mate this is looking tops :goodjob:
I look forward to the updates every day. If I could give some constructive critisium/advice. the handbrake, gear lever and steering wheel would look good in the brushed silver like the centre console surround
good luck with the WTB thread, hopefully few members help you out where they can with some good prices
Thanks Toddler :)
I use these threads as a bit of a sounding board and it helps me plan/organise my builds, it's always good to get input from other people as they often see things "differently" and can add a lot.
My other threads have always ran to about 4000 posts before I shut them down and start a new version (I'm a SuperMod on a US forum so bandwidth isn't an issue)
Being a bit isolated at the new property forums are a good way to "hang out" and keep in touch, bit like an interactive blog, I wasn't sure how well this concept was going to work here as at first LS1.com felt a bit harsh/confrontational ;)
Happy to say everyone that's contributed have been positive and supportive so thanks for that!
Always welcome any offtopic discussion in my threads, think of it as an online version of my real shed where people can drop by and have a yakk about what they're up to, it helps keep things in perspective.
I can see what you mean about the brushed interior parts, maybe later once I get it all running and get phase #2 under way I can concentrate on making it a little prettier, I tend to build for function first, none of my cars have ever been what you'd call show quality but have all been "drivers"!
All I can say is IMPRESSED! Not only for your level of dedication to getting the build right, but also for your dedication to keeping the forum informed :goodjob:
Now I'm done blowing wind up your skirt :) I have to say I'm looking forward to as many details you have for the Climate Control conversion as I want to do this on my VY as well, plus the intermittent wiper conversion too. (and of course the V8 conversion as this is what brought me here in the first place!).
I don't think mine will be as complicated as yours as I don't need to worry about the ESP stuff, but info is power as they say, I'll be learning as I go but I don't have the time to have the ute off the road for too long as it's for work.
I had a heap of stuff written here but I've moved it to my own thread to keep yours on topic, so if you have time would appreciate some advice.
Keep snapping pics and gotchas, you're doing a great job at a high level of detail.
