Re: VF Commodore revealed next week.
The media has reported there will be a consolidation of the different names used for different variants, just as Ford dropped ageing badges like Fairmont a few years ago. No actual details have come to light though.

Commodore, Calais, and the sports models, done.
To me this makes so much sense. Although some people would be annoyed I wonder if they would rationalise completely and just have:
Commodore
Commodore SS
Calais
Caprice
All V6s but each with a V8 option...

Notice the big jump in sales in the first full year after the introduction of an "all new model". VN came in Sept 1988, big jump in 1989, VT came in Sept 1997, big jump in 1998. VE came in Sept 2006, sales flatlined the next year, no jump.
Interestingly, Ford never really got a jump with an all new model (mainly bacause they were lemons) Introduction of the EA in 1988, AU in 1998 and FG in 2008 didn't do a thing for Ford. Ford seemed to get a big jump out of mid-cycle redesigns, look at the XF in 1985, EF in 1994 and BA in 2002.
The VT and VX were salad days for Holden. XE-XF, EF-EL and BA were the salad days for Ford. The VH dragged on too long for Holden, and the AU pretty much killed Ford.
Ford sold less than 800 Falcon sedans in January. Holden sold around 1600 Commodore sedans/wagons. Admittedly January is slow for fleet sales and the VF is coming soon for Holden but Ford looks terrible.
Cheers, Matthew

Well Id say the Berlina name will be gone (Do they even sell any of that variant anymore?)
and all the V spec variants probably.
Really the VF with these new technologies should have been out in 2010 - IMO the gradual upgrades during the VE lifespan have not been good enough. The VE is old, and lacking the tech and refinements of the imports. An example could be like having a VN in production from 1988 to 1995 with minimal changes. wonder how that would've worked out?
Re: VF Commodore revealed next week.
Wow, what happened in '83?
Re: VF Commodore revealed next week.
^ VH was out for too long, people tired of that model being unchanged for so long. And Ford had released two new models in that time XE - XF. Check out the bounce back when the VK was released in '84
Similar thing needs to happen for Commodore right now

Maybe people weren't too keen on the facelifted VC>VH?
(always had a chuckle that the front guards had the indicator recesses still pressed in under the new plastic wrap around lens)
