Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
Here is my 2c mechatron. Circa 2005-06 I purchased a VZ Clubby( hence my user name ). After the obligatory de filipos, custom cai and tune it made from memory 265rwkw. Wanting more like you, especially low down torque, I went down the PWR blower path( which is a magnusson not sure what size ). I really wanted to go cam as it was a 6spd but G&D who did the Job convinced me to go blower at double the cost and some obviously..
The car made 337rwkw. There is a old thread on here in the archives somewhere. Now while that sounds good it didn't feel all that fast. Definitely did not pin me back in my seat as you want. Sure it impressed friends and would go sideways on cold tyres changing back to 2nd at 60-70 but apart from that and the blower whine, you still got use to it and low down throttle response didn't really feel any different to stock on light throttle around town gentle driving. Sure on the dyno it gained tons of torque but that was only a measurement at WOT and was not felt at cruising speeds.
Also the power felt inconsistent. The pwr kit had a small front mount cooler, not sure if it was suffering heat soak or not but there were days it felt much better then others. Anyway acceleration was nothing like a fast 1000cc bike if that's what your after. To cut a long story short I had a ton of electrical gremlins attack the car and the blower was removed and sold within the first 12 months.
After that experience I would never do it again to put it bluntly, anyway your combo sounds ok from what I read and not sure you'll notice much with another 50 rwkw or so but anyway good luck with your journey.......

Thanks heaps for your input mate. It sounds like you didn't really benefit at all...how disappointing. This is what I don't want especially after an outlay of $12K+.
Is this maybe the reason why people are ripping off their superchargers and replacing them with twin turbo kits?
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
I would highly recommend having a ride in a few different combos, head & cam, supercharger, turbo, before committing $$$ to a build.
Its a lot of money especially if your not happy with the end result.
I know my car 570 rwkw is as quick as a 1ltr sports bike ,(I had an 1100 Blackbird and the car was much more of a rush) and can easily scare the crap out of you when driven in anger, but is not something you would want to commute in heavy traffic on a daily basis.

.
Definitely a good idea & I'll definitely be doing this before handing over my hard earned
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
Another thing clubzls2...do you know what boost you were running with the PWR supercharger? Did you lower the compression of the ls2 when you supercharged it?
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
I agree if you really want to be slammed in the seat you need power my VF is heavier than the earlier models but at 554 rwkw now its awesome and like above pretty well will match a sports bike on roll ons. And when you flatten it in 3rd you get that sensation that the g forces will force your hands off the steering wheel lol. And your head is stuck to the head rest. At 440 rwkw while its fast It didnt really feel the same as it does now.
And with superchargers and turbos you can just up the boost but its only so much you can cram into the motor you need cam and good flowing heads to get the most out of it otherwise its just a big restriction in the motor.
Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
Gotcha...so I only need roughly 500rwkw....sounds expensive...really expensive :(
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
The PWR blowers are a lot older, they are 4th and 5th gen blowers where the 1900/2300 are 6th gen meaning dated technology and nowhere near as efficient (higher efficiency means lower temps = more power). Whilst back in those days it was all you could do, they look like dinosaurs compared to the current range of blowers we have today. I believe the M112/122 has 3 rotors with a 60 degree helical twist, the MP1900 has 4 rotors with 160 degrees.
In comparison, 337rwkw is around 450rwhp. I made that with my MP1900 on 6PSI thru a big stalled auto and (like I said earlier) was disappointed with the gain for the outlay. Upped the boost and have not looked back. That power level on a 112/122 PWR type blower would probably be around 9-10PSI.
As an aside for size comparison, the PWR's name dictates the size in cubic inches, so 112 = 1.83L and 122 is a 2L. Where the current PD's are in cc's, so 1900 is 1.9L etc so the earlier ones are a little smaller than the current crop.
No, 500rwhp will be plenty in a VT-VZ. My car would be close to 2T and 500rwhp is still more than enough to pin you down if it gets traction.
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
Yea traction is the go ive got 3/4 warn stock tyres still thats why I can only have a bit of a go in 3rd.
And yes in a VT-VZ there like 300kgs lighter I think
Re: Supercharged your LS Engine? Any regrets
Yea mine will step out at 160ks plus in 4th.
Need slicks to make use of all the power.
But it sure is fun scaring the crap out of passengers......

Just got mine back today, and this statement is correct.

Thanks for clearing that up white lie

Nice one, any photos of your engine bay? And did you get a dyno printout?

haha I just saw your one on face book. The rego number is the same as your user name here!
