I woulnt say the VY did that bad - not as good as VX. But at the time people were trying to get their head around the VY's new look, the rear of the VY copped a bit of critisism at the time.
Really the VZ copped the biggest fall (04 - 06 period) I thought the 'Z was generally well received - obviously not according to that. Few spooked by the then new Alloytec V6 maybe?

Maybe it suffered from "the VE is due soon" and buyers held out for the all new commodore, much like "the VF is due soon, lets wait and see"..

Was nothing at all to do with the cars,
it was only a decline in the "Australian Built" car market,
the car sales numbers in general over the past few years have gone up
but this is mainly due to reduced tarrifs, dropping import duty and rising fuel costs which all contibuted
to people switching over to the cheaper smaller engined imported cars.

I was trying to be a smart arse, but I agree. It took a while for people to get their head around the VY shape after the curvier shape of the previous models. I like the VZ shape, if I didnt have a VX SS I'd get a VZ (Z series Senator is a NICE car).
There's obviously a lot more that go with those charts than just buyers being turned off models. Fuel prices and competitor products (especially the SUV craze) really aren't helping. I'd suggest the enthusiast end of the market (ie. anyone on this forum) account for a lot of what's left of those charts with fleets moving to smaller/more economical cars (un-researched opinion). I'd like to think maybe now Holden will finally to it's customers, but with the Cruze etc doing well the Commodore customers don't really stand a chance. You know, all that stuff about their dealer networks, niggles about jacks etc. You know, all the stuff Davo has been telling us we are full of shit about for years.

I have a Y and a Z, prefer the Z styling but they're both HUGE cars after the last Commodore I owned way back... (VB)

Dead right. Iraq war started in 2003 and fuel prices took off and that killed fleet demand for big cars and the SUV craze killed private demand for big cars.
Fleets are never going to go back to big 6cyl sedans ever. SUV craze keeps going, if we had another oil crisis I suspect people would move to smaller SUVs, not back to 6cyl sedans.
If you were planning a range of cars 20 years a go you have small/medium/large sedan, very small/small hatch, large wagon plus an SUV. Now you would have small sedan, verysmall/small hatch, dont bother with a wagon but just have small/medium/large SUVs.

Probably a tizz up of the VF in 2016 for a run through to 2018 and then thas it. I seriously doubt he means an all new Commodore, unless GM have given a job to Holden to design some sort of sedan for global markets to replace the Commodore and Chevy SS Performance (This is my most wildly optimistic scenario).

Maybe its like how the Cruze went from a softroader awd thing into a midsize sedan/hatch. Maybe the new commodore will morph into an "SUV" as the yanks would say.
But i hope they could make something RWD based on the alpha platform.
