Cannot agree more with C4B and Steve. There are faster cars, quicker cars, better handling cars, cars that are better on fuel, emissions and so on. So what? For me the HSV ticks the boxes better than anything else I can afford. Yes it is all a compromise and I don't doubt there will be bits that will be less than ideal but hey I don't have the luxury of buying an Aston or CLS AMG.

Give it a break, no one normal has even driven the bloody thing yet!

0-100 times are so 1990s anyway. Isn't the real measure the standing kilometre now?

If 0 – 100 doesn’t mean anything and you don’t care if it’s as good in other areas as it’s far more expensive rivals then use the same thinking and go for the Supercharged Ford and save yourself some cash.

Remember, most people who want this car can’t afford it (like me) and of those who can, most of them won’t want it.
That’s not a lot of customers left to play around with.

Over the past few years we’ve heard nothing but how important the whole package is when justifying the off pace performance of the VE HSV’s compared to the Fords.

Are the fans starting to get edgy and maybe realising this car isn’t going to match its power with performance compared to other like-wise powered cars?
Do we now have to start the whole justifying process again with the 0 -100 isn’t important when we know deep down in the world of cars it is?
Is this thread the turning point where all the fans jump on board and start the, 0 to 100 isn’t important argument?

I don’t think so.
Personally I think HSV are too smart to allow this car to fall short and it will be capable of matching similar cars in the real world.
Holden and HSV have gone as far as they can with the new models to make them more attractive to lost customers.
Making a GTS that doesn’t preform wouldn’t be a part of that.
This will be a very fast car.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It will be a fast car! And of course it's important when you're talking about a supercharged V8 but it's not the be all and end all of everything.
While the whole E2/E3 EDI system never appealed to me, the new tech features of the VF really do. I don't like the VF exterior so much but will wait to see it in the flesh before I dismiss it, BUT I absolutely love the interior and tech specs.

The GTS ain't just making headlines here.
I see Vauxhall (UK) trumpeting its release as the "584 HP VXR8 GTS"!!
Some good news.....at least we have "some" exports going on.....I wonder how many will be sold over there.....Remember I said HSV wants to build 700 in the 1st 12 months?...I reckon, subject to parts availability & no unheralded production delays, with sales in NZ & UK, they'll get there.

The only press it will get in car hating Australia is likely to be more killer cars coverage. We are probably all better off if it doesn't get any press!

I seem to recall a Capri in the UK (early 80's?) with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine towing a caravan, would predate this Falcon though.

Last Saturday I asked my neighbour while he was washing his 12 month old E3 what he thought of the new HSV’s and he didn’t even know there was a new Commodore. :banghead:

Same goes for work.
I can’t strike up a conversation on the new Holdens as no-one cares.

The only people I see interested in the release of these vehicles are the few that frequent car forums or the Journalists that make a living by reporting on them.

The real world has moved on from Holden and sadly that will reflect in the sales figures.

I understand it’s not Holden’s doing as they have been forced to follow the lead of GM in the USA but we have just witnessed the worst slow release media event for a new car ever.
By the time it hits the showrooms it will feel like last year’s model.

And what are the car forums left to do?
Argue over how fast and powerful they may be after months of seeing the release photos.
Most people couldn’t care less.

Headlines no, head yawn yes.

For over 90K, the 430kw GTS would want to be faster than a GS and GT. It wasn't so long ago that ford was using the 'whole package' argument to justify why their slower cars were better.
