Removing my centre muffler
Quick question. I have the Varex full system and car is blown and cammed. How much louder will the car be if I remove the centre muffler. Ideally I want a louder idle, much louder.
I do have Varex mufflers and thinking if I want the car quiet, I can simply close the valves (which I never do now). Will that quieten it down if I choose to?
Any advice or feedback?
Re: Removing my centre muffler
I would expect it to be much louder. It will essentially make it a straight pipe exhaust when the valves are open.
Re: Removing my centre muffler
i replaced centre mufflers with hotdogs, sounded much better both down low and when upit.

Re: Removing my centre muffler
Hi guys. Spoke to a few people and the consensus is that just deleting middle muffler sounds awful. Quite truck like.
However, removing the centre muffler and replacing with hot dogs will give me what I want. Much deeper note and some volume.
I am going to get my Varex mufflers hard wired into the car as the controller sucks, but then I can easily control the volume. I always drive with them open but I may use them a bit more now.
Spoke to an exhaust shop and he was trying to convince me to go Hurricane and keep my Varex mufflers but I cant see the point. He says they are a deeper note but if I am keeping same mufflers I cant see the point.

I had a Hurricane twin 3 inch on my VE for a little while, worst sounding exhaust I have ever heard unfortunately (and had fitment issues with tips all crooked). Left it on the floor at ET when I had the Streetfighter system fitted, couldn't even bring myself to on sell it to someone.
Re: Removing my centre muffler
Hahaha really?
I was exactly the same when I got sucked into buying a single Sureflo 3.5" system on my old VZ. It looked like and old piece of drain pipe and I cannot remember exact powergain but it was significant.
I am amazed so many people swore by that crap lol
Re: Removing my centre muffler
Ok kind of embarrassing. I got to the shop, put the car up and realized removing my muffler in the middle has already already been removed. It has straight through pipes god knows when I did it hahaha.
So new plan... I think I'm not going to do cat back system as I don't think piping will change the noise much. Thinking I'll just change rear mufflers.
What are my options boys?
Magnaflow?
Re: Removing my centre muffler
Further to this. Thinking I'll look at cat back duel Defilippo to mate up to my headers. Then I can sell my xforce

 We all make mistakes :yup:
Hope you get it to where you are happy with it soon mate!
Re: Removing my centre muffler
Thanks mate. Yeah just keeping my eyes out for a set of mufflers at least. There was a set on gumtree 400 for both but they were 2.5's.
Re: Removing my centre muffler
What headers are you currently running?
unfortunatly I have yet to hear a cheap system that sounded good AND doesn't drone...
do do it once and do it properly, fit up a quality system with decent headers and it will sound good. Otherwise you'll spend more money and effort with cheap stuff...
Re: Removing my centre muffler
I have good headers. Stainless Xforce 1 7/8 headers. They work great.

Quite a few peeps bag the Xforce product though time & again has proven itself in very decent results. Had them on my last two rides & very happy with them too :yup:
