From MY08-09 on they were white, red was too hard to focus on.

I think white illumination at night started with MY9.5, possibly even MY9 at the earliest? :confused: My SSV sedan was March 07 built and had red illumination which was terrible for me as I'm very slightly red colour blind so had to really concentrate to read it. My MY9.5 ute has white and is a huuuuuuuuuuuge improvement!! :yup:Quote:

You confirmed what I initially thought Boon i.e. MY9.5. I just added that it could even have been MY9 (but I doubted it) because the post I was initially replying to (indirectly) thought even MY8.
My MY9.5 SS had white on grey, was stupidly hard to see during the day with the dash lights off. The E3 HSV dash in my maloo on the other hand is perfect in all conditions, makes the S2 dashes look plain.

I am picking up a Thunder SS next week and am concerned about the white on grey instrument cluster. I would hate the red though. My MY9.5 Sportwagon is white on blue with Nitrate so that looks fine.
I was thinking of putting a calais cluster into it.
I'm pretty sure a MY12 E3 HSV cluster will fit, you can pick up a new one off ebay for around $400. Most places with a Tech 2 can link it for you.
That may be correct for a MY12 SSV but I recommend checking into it before buying. After two attempts at having mine done interstate for my MY9.5 SSV it still isn't working due to the ABS set up the E3 dash goes looking for, even though it had been set correctly before being sent back to me. That was the only reason it was sent back up for further reprogramming after the first time and even though it was specifically set correctly the second time it still reverted back when plugged back in. :(Quote:

I've seen the E3 clusters for a lot less than $400 now - have seen Buy It Now prices in the lowish $200s now. I think SenatorMike now has some.
I have purchased a Calais Cluster ( Series 2 ) to go into my Series 1 MY10 SSV. Took it into Holden, I even gave them the specific reference number for the Holden 'howto' program docs and they STILL could NOT get the Tech 2 to talk to the new cluster, charged me just over $180 and were not successful . So I have a brand new cluster here that when I get around to it is being sent down to South for programming.
Make sure either your local Holden dealer is switched on and not just a bunch of dumb kents or have it programmed elsewhere ready for fitment etc.

Bugger! MY12 Calais cluster into MY12 SSV shouldn't be a big problem, so if you do decide later on to do it and if your dealer can't/won't tackle it email Justin (doubledip on here) as I'm sure he can do it remotely i.e. send it up to him and get it back all working. It's only the E3 HSV dashes into earlier models like my MY9.5 that's causing him problems at the moment.
