They don’t care, as has been discussed many times before.

sorry now that I'm on a computer I will eloborate, If the car is stolen then insurance arnt going to know what is on the car, unless you try and claim it. If you let your insurance know then you should be fine, however you illegal modification directly effects the car and causes a crash then yes they can and will void insurance. i regards to being lowered, every state is different so you could be ok. In regards to the exhaust and cats they are illegal because they would not meet emissions and would probably not pass the noise test

thx 4 elaborating , if car is stolen and not found sure they wont know , but if car is stolen and found they will know . yeh i have let them know and they said as long as its all legal . so exhaust cats headers are all illegal regardless of size ?? or is it more noise /emissions ?? anywhere you know i can vheck for lowering limit ??
might be worth while contacting an engineer getting it all done then im sweet ??

Re: exhaust cats headers -legal ? suspension lowered -legal ?
The regs are changing as we speak, most people don't actually know what is truly legal...one of the most common things I hear over the years for example in regards to lowering is that 100mm is the minimum allowed and whilst police generally go by this its completely wrong and varies from car to car. Checked the links below for a better understanding.

Re: exhaust cats headers -legal ? suspension lowered -legal ?
Interesting thanks Nutter. If I read NCOP11 correctly then in Vic we are able to lower (or raise) a vehicle by up to 50mm if that's also within 1/3 of the vehicle's original suspension travel. As you say, no reference to 100mm minimum height allowed. I did see reference to airbag suspension needing certification but nothing I could see on coilovers???
To the OP, I had to take my heavily modified ute in to an AAMI assessment centre after an at fault claim early last year involving another vehicle (minor damage to both but given the other was an older Barina I wouldn't be surprised if it was written off). My mods are all listed on the policy and the guy didn't look twice, maybe coz I'm a disabled old fart. :D Still, that seems to be the same as most people have found with claims on their modded vehicles, but doesn't mean everybody will be the same if you write off a Ferrari or the insurer is looking to reduce payouts.

Don’t have to follow you, you’re everywhere.
If you were serious about this subject you’d be talking to your local road regulation authorities and your insurance company getting the correct info first and passing it on to the forum members. Not seeking important legal advice from people who you don’t know if what they tell you is correct or not. I for one would want my info from those who enforce it.
If you were interested you’d have done a simple search on of this forum for ‘Illegal Mods’ and a multitude of threads would have presented themselves including the recent epics from member ‘Doco’ who took the time to accumulate a lot of info from registration authorities, insurance companies and complying engineers.
You could have easily added to a number of them. They are only a month or so old.
Where have all the threads on cars gone?
Where has all the write ups from the sponsors gone?
Where have the members who push the boundaries gone?
They ran away when cheap LS1 powered cars brought the know all argumentative SC type crowd here.
Is this the future of LS1?
What exhaust, what exhaust, what exhaust, what exhaust?
Abuse, abuse, abuse?
How about adding to existing discussions instead of starting them all over again.
Obviously this it a great thread as the members are climbing over each other to get involved.

I feel another thread where someone is :fishing: for an argument has begun, im just going to put my :flame: suit on get in my
:hide: and wait for the party to start :dancenana::banana::party: and once it's all over and everyone's testorene has recided ill get out my :nopity:
 .
Is it really that hard to play nice these kids?

Re: exhaust cats headers -legal ? suspension lowered -legal ?
Nutter, the reason for the 100mm 'wheel of terror' is quite simple - it is the easiest way to determine whether the car may be non-compliant. I haven't read up on the regulations lately, but it always was the retention of 2/3 original suspension travel and the wheelbase formula, in combination with no less than 100mm ground clearance (within 1 metre fore / aft of any axle) and as the other two are difficult to measure due to the sheer number of vehicle types and equipment required, the 100m became the norm, because it is an easy test. Remembering, also, the rules apply to a vehicle in its loaded state.
As for the inter-member issues that have again surfaced - please keep them to PMs, or simply do not communicate with one another :teach:
cheers
Re: exhaust cats headers -legal ? suspension lowered -legal ?
I was waiting for your reply, I figured it was due to the sheer amount of makes and models on the road the 100mm rule became the easy minimum measure, I never complained as no one ever checked anything else so it worked out well.
Re: exhaust cats headers -legal ? suspension lowered -legal ?
As other quality forums have determined, the search facility collapses when it is weighed down by continuous small threads with the same subject matter.
Older threads full of good and/or bad info are lost in the sea of useless small threads.
Every time a new thread is posted the search becomes harder.
You can enjoy the forum just as much by adding to an existing thread without the need to start a new one.
Choke the forum to death if you want too, the increasing lack of participation from members it an indication all is not well.
And of course the abuse when members don’t agree, what a death rattle that is.
I’ll now step away from the subject.

Agreed.... trying to get any kind of response to a legitimate question is getting harder and harder.
I posted a question the other day at the end of an old thread which was relevant to my question (rather than start a new one) and was met by "dislikes" of my post!!! sheesh

This is a common thing with forums, happens everywhere. What is really needed is a wiki where people can put this kind of information (things with fixed/absolute answers like modification regulations), and it's in a place where everyone can see it. More importantly you don't get conflicting answers every time the question comes up! Then the "use the search" responses will hopefully change to "use the wiki", which is infinitely more useful as the wiki will actually have the answer you're looking for. Try searching for something on a huge forum like XDA-Developers and you'll soon find out what happens. Searching for the answer to a question is like looking for a needle in a needle-stack
Forums simply aren't designed for just storing information, they're for discussion. Maybe a wiki should be added?
Also, in a stroke of irony, every time somebody posts the "use the search function" response, you actually REDUCE the effectiveness of the search as you get hundreds of small threads filled with "use the search" responses instead of the actual answer. So actually finding the answer to a question in between dozens(sometimes hundreds) of threads gets quite difficult, resulting in more threads asking for an answer, resulting in more "use the search" and on and on it goes...
To answer the original question, you're probably better off going to the source (e.g. VicRoads/RTA etc) to get an answer. Regulations change practically every year and especially since we've rolled over the new financial year it wouldn't surprise me if some new regulations have snuck in which nobody knows about.

OK..... Answers to your questions IMHO.
Your exhaust ...........Depends on how loud it is?......Most likely will make it too noisey for any state laws, (a stock exhaust on a SS only just scrapes under the limit).
Extractors ..............."Should" be OK....as long as they do not sit too low.
100 cpi cats............ Totally Illegal..Will not meet emission laws.
Lowered 2 inches...... No it will be too low...(stock a SS is only just over the minimum height, sometimes even just with time stock springs can sag under the limit)
As far as you are thinking of fitting a otrcai and a maffless tune.......That is totally illegal as well.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to automotive forums In 2012, just about everything has been done or discussed before so now you just cop shit because people are bored and don't have anything else to read.... Isn't it great? :banghead: yup unfortunately true
Also I just want to say I'm probably a lot rusty and may have forgotten or incorrectly stated info in the post above as I'm not really that brushed up on all the regs anymore.
