Asking opinions on behalf of a friend but hes considering the above for his VE HSV GTS LS2. Which system would have the best overall tone/sound ,...
I had a full 3" KPM (non SLC - that's important!) on my cammed SSV ute and many people said it was the best VE they'd heard.
However, guy I know has a VF with a full DF 3" system and it also sounds awesome!
The two systems don't sound identical so it comes down to personal opinion and taste.
The only way to be sure is listen to and be driven in cars with each.
People used to criticise the DF systems for lack of ground clearance but my KPM was very well tucked up. I did read a post by someone whose opinion I trust saying there was no difference in depth between DF and KPM (Pacemaker) extractors so maybe the difference was in the rest of the system design esp the way the cats were done.
In that sense the KPM on the ute was much better than the original KPM 3" I'd had on my previous SSV sedan.
From my experience the KPM 3" system is very loud....
Bloody expensive too!!
I've got a KPM
but this is a good price

For the money KPM charge I would want more than a bit of bent steel hung onto the bottom of my car.
Dandenong Exhausts (DPE) I've heard do a good system in the 4wd circles so would be worth a look, they are priced ok.
Also CHE will ship Australia wide. Food for thought
I had full KPM 3" systems on my sedan and then ute for over 7 years and 120,000km or so and was never bothered by police, though I drive like a grandpa 98% of the time and don't go to known trouble spots doing laps! :lmao:
FWIW the VF Difilippo system I referred to above is at least as loud as the KPM system on the ute before it was cammed and the VF has a blower!
Pricewise KPM and DF much of a muchness.
Disagree Ash re KPM price - they're on a par with DF (DPE) systems (unless DF has reduced prices lately) so your comment about just a bit of bent steel applies equally. The KPM systems include HPC extractors and cats too, so more than just a bit of bent steel. My ute system was on for over 6 years and about 90,000km without a problem.
As I said to the OP, it really comes down to preference in sound.
I'm very happy with the HM on mine, very well made and sounds great - something to consider. I've got the full HM setup on my ute (1 7/8 headers, twin 3"). I think price wise they're not the cheapest but I think they're a bit cheaper than the DPE/KPM. Not sure on exact as I bought mine as part of a pack.
anything but xforce
I like manta but each to there own, really comes down to $$$
xforce are made in china, made to a budget.
Exactly! I was confused by Ash's statement so Googled - result below.

I gather that Exhaust Technology no longer makes the KPM products.
I just heard it from my cousin.
Before my previous post I also Googled Dandenong Performance Exhausts and got nothing. Closest I got was Dandy Exhausts in Cheltenham Rd where I went a few times with my VY. Vinnie there is a nice guy and quite knowledgeable, but doubt he could do a VE system to match the sound of a KPM or DPE.
I thought the same, but Hos is usually good with his info so ........... ???
KPM are also made in China..............
Components of the KPM SLC systems do come from China but the true KPM systems as I had on my SSV sedan and ute are made by Exhaust Technology who were next door to KPM before KPM apparently moved.
They are definitely the systems to get and are I believe what Hos was referring to when he said they are no longer making them for KPM, therefore I would definitely go direct to Exhaust Technology for their Marko Gold system! :goodjob:
Just bolted up a pacemaker 3'' catback...
Glad I didn't go KPM:jerk:
Bullshit. I have had X-Force, Hurricane, Redback, Sureflo and now the ET system, no comparison. Sometimes it seems that you do get what you pay for ;)
Glad you are happy with your new system though. How much and is it full stainless? Have had Pacey headers a couple of times and they were good quality.
Being the tight a@@e im am, and a wife you is charge of finance, picked up a full pacemaker system for $1800 near new. Im not bagging really any other system, each has there own merits, and affordability and difference preference in sound loud, quiet, mellow, racey .The quality is extremely good on the pacemaker system, cant fault it really.
The DPE big boy system is one of the best for power but its bloody loud when you have heaps of power going through it. At least they position the cats properly well away from the collector merge some have the cats right next to the merge which is crap and kills the cats to when supercharged.
I remember back around 2012 I had a chat with someone up at KPM and their mufflers were Japanese something like HKS or JUN but I googled the muffler and I got hundreds of results from Supra forums lol. It probably is made in China but it appeared to be quality stuff. I run a Difilippo Big boy, nothing better imo.
The mufflers on my ute's KPM 3" system were JUNBL and as you say are very highly regarded by the ricer crowd and I reckon they were great. Many people regarded my ute as the best sounding VE they'd heard and there's no way I'd go for anything else but KPM or Di Filippo because with exhausts you really do get what you pay for. Some of you may remember that I previously discounted DF after hearing it on a cammed SSV sedan a friend of mine had. It sounded sort of off under hard acceleration and also droned and caught badly on speed humps. He changed it for a KPM 3" and was much happier - no drone and far less scraping.
However, another mate now has a blown VF SSV with full DF 3" system and it sounds bloody tough - making me rethink my position! :)
Ive got the DF big boy and happy with it for sure because cant really beat the design of it. Its just im not really sure on the sound at the moment some people love but when ive played it back after a gopro vid im not sure its a bit old school sound. It sounds awesome if I rev it and just dump it it sounds like its getting towards pro stock drag sound just that instant of noise. But when it drives off its the old school sound. I haven't really don't it properly though as its so fast now its just not legal and attracts people from several suburbs away lol.
I've got DF Big Boy, I love the sound, deep rumble which sounds great inside the car. No idea what it sounds like on the outside but my family say they here me coming down the street and it's only ticking over at 50 kph.
On a cruise the other day I sat at one set of lights with a car between mine and the guy with the blown VF SSV with the DF Big Boy system and whilst I think it sounds great (very deep and tough) I doubt I'd want to put it on my car because it was too loud!! I thought the KPM 3" system on my cammed ute was loud as it would rattle windows at idle but the DF Big Boy I could hear at idle from 2 cars back over my 3" KPM (only SLC so not as loud as the ute) plus radio!! If I'd ever attracted police attention in the ute I would have just worn it, but with the Senator the consequences of a close inspection would not be good! :nutkick:
Ok ive had the pacemaker on for over 2 week now! AND its coming off! Note has changed abit and idle isn't that good as id like..WOT feels quite soft, not to worry already sold the pacemaker and a few other things so can fund new catback..
