Thanks for the welcome.
Yes I will enjoy driving it every chance i get. I do have a little LS3 side project going into an LX Torana, so she doesn't have both legs in the pants

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Actually, I've read so much on which brand exhaust and what size, I've confused myself.
I do like what I read about the Sureflo complete systems, they recommend 3 inch, but I'm open to suggestions.
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Plenty of choice on exhaust systems....try and listen to different systems on cars as everyone has different taste in exhaust notes.
I would suggest 1&7/8" headers with hi flo cats and 3" cat back.....
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
As John said, the only way to be sure is ride in and listen from the outside to systems you're potentially interested in. That's not always practical of course but if you stick with the well regarded (and expensive) systems like DF and Exhaust Technology KPM (not SLC KPM) you're pretty sure to be satisfied.
As for headers, I had 1 3/4 on my SSV sedan with 3" KPM system and on my SSV ute I had the same but 1 7/8 for sound. The ute sounded slightly better and had similar power with otherwise very similar mods.
However, John at Streetquick Performance in WA has done lots of testing at the strip and even on blown and h/c cars finds 1 3/4 are consistently quicker.

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Great advice Gaz, reckon I will go for the 1 3/4 pipes as I don't see my LS3 being heavily modded in the future.
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
another vote for 1 7/8 for the 6.2. save your self $ later on when the mods list grows and grows and grows :)

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Well I only have myself to blame
Took the ute to the muffler shop I've used for 20 years, and I let the shop and my tuner talk me into a 2.5 cat back.
Muffler shop did a nice job and fitted a Xforce setup....but.........it's no louder than the stock bimodal system.
Yes it's less restricted and has a nicer note, but My inner hoon can't hide his disappointment.

Give it more time to carbon up. It will get louder and deeper within the next month or so...depending on how much you drive it

Not another disappointed customer of brand X...
I'd take it back, if its only a day or 2 old and get a refund, if your so unhappy with it...
Call DF direct, order a twin 3 inch system over the phone, it'll be on your door step in 3 - 4 days.
Install it yourself, easy with car jack and jack stands.
Job done.
BTW nice ride...

Are you kidding? people complain that X force are too loud and obnoxious and he says that a 2.5" is too quite. How is that "another disappointed customer of brand X". Are you saying a 3" x force wont be loud enough still so he needs to get a DF? stop with the pointless brand bashing jesus....
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Yeah and not to mention that a full DF exhaust will cost over $4K...fkn ridiculous.

He said and I quote "Yes it's less restricted and has a nicer note, but My inner hoon can't hide his disappointment."
He bought it and is "disappointed"...
Doesn't get much clearer than that...

Yeah but everyone should know that exhausts (from new) can only get louder and deeper over time

People should do there research first, and make the correct decision the first time, then they'll be happy, without wanting to change it or part of it, as soon as they bought it.
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Their twin 3" systems are a lot louder. I never found the 2.5" system loud, just didn't like the note. Can always remove the resi and run straight pipes at the back but it will be drone city. Do it right the first time I reckon
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Does the UTE have the baily Tip setup as sedan???
This sends sound to the boot floor through a hole in tip to make the exhaust sound louder in car than it is.
But fitting a aftermarket system this is removed and sounds like makes car sound quite compared to stock system
Having had 3" Xforce on sedan and Ute can say the ute can take a louder exhaust as no cabin

Isn't twin 2.5" classed as small on a LS3 anyway?

I don't think a twin 60mm system is too small on an LS3. It will come down to future mods I suppose?
Personally I like the Xforce systems though will not use one on my VF2, most likely just decent headers probably 1-3/4 & high flow cats while retaining the Bi modal oem catback system.

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
A few people have done dyno testing and there's no reason to NOT go a twin 3" on a 6L/6.2L. A little drone maybe, but nothing really all that bad. Especially on a ute.
The VF's do dampen noise in the cabin though, a lot of money went into improving NVH for VF so it tends to be a lot quieter than it really is from the cabin.

IMHO little gain to be had NA 6 or 6.2L with a 3" system.

The gain is in the note the twin 3" produces

Have to agree on this, I built a twin 3" system for the Tonner when I had the Blower engine in it, when I swapped the LS1 in I couldn't be bothered building another system for it so left it in, it always gets complimented wherever I take it as it doesn't have the usual LS Vacuum cleaner note to it!

Not a lot of gains, but very few reasons not to either.

His disappointment would be with the noise level of a 2.5" system, but you had to try and shoot down the fact its xforce. I notice you didnt recommend him a 2.5" DF, wonder why....... would he be disappointed with that too you think?.......

To clarify was speaking of output not sound. Have spoken to both Sonny & Sam about this in the past & Sam himself has done rigorous testing of various pipes. Is a shame
both these guys don't frequent here anymore though I have a fairly good idea why....
Yet to see any power deficiency with the cheaper Xforce exhaust, quite possibly why the Op's long time installer recommended one.

Yep, we knew what you were talking about Mick [emoji4].
Also I've always been under the impression that the size of the cat back exhaust doesn't really matter...it just gives you the right note. It's the size of the headers and cats that actually affect power & torque.
Hell, When I went from a twin 2.5" DF exhaust to a twin 3" Xforce exhaust on my cammed VY SS I did not lose any power or torque whatsoever. What I did achieve was a tough deep note that gives me a boner every time I start my car up

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
This is part of my disappointment.
I would have thought I would have proper dual muffler outlets

Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Yes mate it is! But even the so called top of the range KPM do the exact same! Another reason I will most likely stick with OEM catback & a decent set of headers & high flow cats.

Strangely I have seen KPM systems with both Y pipe tips and full dual outlets. Just guessing here but maybe the SLC systems (like mine on the Senator) are Y pipe tips and the true Exhaust Technology KPM systems have full duals?
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
Gaz doubt it would cause any performance or sound difference with those systems.

Nope, my built by ET, Streetfighter has the Y pipe. I can't see what difference it makes, as their is only one pipe going into the muffler.

Prezactly Mick! :D Can't be seen most of the time but the dual outlet mufflers do look better at those times you do see them.

Oops! Another Wonky theory shot down in flames! :lmao: Just looks better on the odd occasion you can see the outlets from the muffler.
-
Re: First post VF 2 SSV Redline ute
The image that Xforce uses for the Ve/vf ute 2.5 cat back system shows a twin outlet muffler.
And No, I didn't think my steel system was going to look like the stainless system used for illustration purposes. But the general public would be fair to think they were getting a similar system in steel.
