VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Does anybody know if there is a way to update the Sat nav in a VF Calais without having to get a service done to get the update at $129. I am a retired Holden mechanic and life member of the I.A.M.E. and the dealer will not sell the update to me at the cheaper price as I do my own servicing.

I have the current most recent update in my car. A mate gave it to me for free though guys on Facebook sell copies for $50. PM me. I had a feeling list price was $16x? Over $160.

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
wtf, you have to pay for an update? How is it not just part of any regular software update? especially if still under warranty etc.
-
Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Yes heard our local dealerships here in Sydney are asking almost $200 for the update on my VF2 bit less if having it serviced.

rip off that!
the satnav update (extra maps + update/fix old) is $160 RRP (as per Holden) or
$129 done along with a service
Note .. this is not a fix so it is not covered under warranty (you are getting more stuff)
and no... they won't sell it to you (as Holden/dealer vehicle records will not match what is actually on the car if they don't do it)

bit hard... when Holden send you an email
advising the update is available... and listing the prices in the email

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Yes it is a rip off as the Holden system does not even have the most important warning of school zones. We all know where our local schools are but when you travel you are in foreign territory. I have to have a add on unit to warn of school zones- not good for an expensive car

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Does anyone know the version number for the old one and the new one please?
Im not sure where to find it?

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
The maps I have which I'm sure are currently the latest (else I'd have seen people selling them on FB) are MY15 update (released 2016) Config D313, sw version 8319.
In VE it might display as the maps are loading but if not it definitely comes up in one of the settings while in navigation mode. (Info???)

Mine warns me when I'm nearing a school zone in school times but it's not very accurate. Even going along a freeway at 100kmh it can warn you of school zones and railway crossings on roads running parallel and out of sight.

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
I have been quoted $50 plus return postage to update my SD card or $80 inc postage for a new SD card with 17 maps. Map version code 8418.
-
Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Oops! Just checked back on FB and I've missed an update from a few days ago. :( Dickie is right - 8418 now available. $100 from guys on FB.

Unfortunately I've just noticed there are two different versions 1. VE iQ ($50) and 2. VF Mylink ($80) as Dickie said. On FB. PM me for more info if you can't find it yourself.

I got that email, funny my Jan 2016 build SS has no satnav.
Holden on the ball as always

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
With the VF the update can only be done via the comms unlike VE's that has a SD card. Only options with VF is go to the Stealership or directly to the dudes offering this on fb.

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
where do you find the map version number? I thought it was in settings---> radio settings-----> Software Information------>software version numbers. There is a list there of software version numbers?
Or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Not the genuine factory fitted Sat Nav. It does not have school zones, speed cameras etc. I know I have had two Calais V's and neither have it an Holden have had the units blocked at the factory so you cannot install them.
-
Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
I have an E3 iQ system in my E1 Senator with factory maps including speed cameras and school zones.
-
Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
My SSV has Speed camera and school zone updates. Pretty sure you can turn them on and off in the settings menu for the Navigation.

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
So does anyone know the latest map version number for a series VF2? please The old one and new preferably.

Only thing I have found like I said was go to:
Radio Settings-Software Settings-Software information/version.
then a whole list comes up but I don't know what is what as its all just codes.

Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
The update is applied via USB. The same update apply's on all VF radios. To check the version its on the Software Version Menu, 3rd from the bottom:
Code:
New: 84019565 Version 30.11.0F.11
Old: 23296891 Version 30.10.0E.11
The USB contains a license file (as well as the map data files) for the vehicle with a VIN inside an RSA security certificate. The license is ordered from the map makers usually a week before so they can make the license file for your VIN and send it to the dealer.
Later MY16+ that had the Driver Alerts for School Zone and Railways will gain Speed Cameras (fixed speed cams). Earlier ones do not. I have enabled all three on MY14-MY15 but the dealer cannot. I wont discuss it here though.
So thats how it all works :)

as I just did. $126 for the Satnav update (along with a oil/filter+service) on the Tourer
at the same time, the service guys found I had NOT got the latest software... so bingo
now have it free of charge
that gives me a new HSV logo (woohoo) plus more stuff apparently in PANDORA (which I don't use)
PLUS
the all important reversing lines on the rear camera
all good with me....

After much search I think I'm hitting a brick wall. I did find this on a review site i use - https://www.productreview.com.au/lis...tems-australia which is far from complimentary.
The only real advice I got was from a Holden dealer ... ex ... who suggested having a new unit installed.

Yes I am seeing the same sort of problems with sat nav updates on many makes & models.
Even my great little plug in TomTom which I bought about 5 years ago with "Free Lifetime Updates" cannot be updated
as TomTom has decided it is past it's use by date & will no longer support them.
(This is something that was important to me & I clearly remember I specifically asked about & was told would not happen when they were selling me the thing)
-
Re: VF Calais V Sat Nav update
Yes - life time updates really depends on the length of the life ... :)
I heard 10 years was generally a maximum. 5 seems tad brief ... :)
I guess the other answer is to buy a new car !!!

Not sure B346. I guess I'd need someone who knew what they were doing to install it. Do you know something about them ? Have you tried/got one ?
Pardon my ignorance - but does it behave the same - ie allow you to save addresses to a list etc. Would it affect my CD/DVD in any way - I guess not ?
Presumably you'd let it access your phone's google maps ? I'm not too bright on these things - I just know my maps are out of date.

I know not much at all about them mate, but managed to put one in our 2009 Golf and it was super easy to install and a massive upgrade over the factory unit. Maybe reach out to them and ask some questions. I found them to be very easy to deal with and extremely helpful when I asked questions.
