Thought I might post this here, a petition to keep the FTTH NBN, it's gaining momentum.

This isn't a debate about the election, just the plans for the NBN let's not get off topic.

yep it'll be a crying shame if they can it.

Hopefully a silver lining may be that they will allow iiNet to expand their HFC locally.

4G is my only saviour .. 80 down, 39 up. When Telstra flick the switch next year hopefully it will be double that speed.

I've already experienced 4g speeds half at peak times since getting a 4g phone nearly 12 months ago

As I said, Telstra are flicking the switch to phase 2 next year which is the 200Mb option, as they have reached 4 million 4G devices on the current network.

As it is now, I get better download speed than 2 of my NBN connected colleagues at work (currently working in Telstra I should add)

    Re: Labor vs Liberal NBN

I'm interested to find out what's going to happen with Optus HFC now that Liberal are in. The original plan was for Optus to effectively hand the HFC network over to NBNCo which was fine as NBN offer 100Mbps speeds just like HFC does today. But with Liberal claiming "up to" 25Mbps being enough for everyone, I wonder what game they'll try and play for those of us who are already on higher speed networks... not exactly fair game to force people off an existing service that offers better performance than their proposed replacement.

That's good for you, it depends on the contention of the local cell - my local tower is very heavily congested on the 3g (to the point of unusability) due to the wisdom of Telstra of installing one tower in the CBD and 3 around the edge of town!

4G speeds are good from what I've seen - but the iiNet HFC still trumps it for download speed. I imagine the same thing happening once 4G becomes more ubiquitous on lower end devices as well.
