separation , what a bitch , bit of it going 'round .

If i put a blower on mine , as is ,
do you think i'll exceed 350kw at the fly ?

I'd like to stay under 350 and avoid all the strengthening stuff .

Wifes car. I really should take some newer pics of it one day. Just a daily driver with a couple of mods - Mafless, DVD headrests, coil overs etc.

i got bitten by the 4wd bug and after selling my avalanche i've moved on to a gu patrol. but i have been having evil dreams of modding an adventra to be a bit more of a hybrid streeter/off the beaten track car...

i'm interested in what you think it would take to comfortably fit a larger tyre such as the 255/55 on adventra or avalanche. i'm thinking 50mm lift or so is doable. coilover front suspension would be necessary for tyre clearance from memory when i was looking at it on my avalanche. what else could be done to help make these awd's more capable off the bitumen?

also, before anyone pipes in, i know they'll never compare to a 4x4 like the patrol or landcruiser etc, but i think if you're not into too much hardcore stuff, they could serve their purpose. i for one miss the comfort and power of the avalanche ALOT. but the capability of the patrol is undeniable. it will get me just about anywhere...

Re: Avalanches and other AWD Holdens Pics and Qs

I have 255/35/19 with 19x9 inch on the front of my Avalance no problems. Zero scrubbing even at full lock going down bumps. The backs are 19x10 with 295/30/19
Front offset +36 and back +50.

The fronts guards are full but out the back there is room for 19 x 335s at least. Massive tyres possible. Shame the X5 wheels in the 21s are not right for the fronts. Would look mad.

if you are not keen on the back of a avalanche chuck some fat tyres back there and it looks sweet. Huge difference with the proper filled guards.

One of my favorite add ons is the train horn. 150db+. It is so much fun. Plenty of room for it too. Fits perfect. The compressor and air tank is in the back

I have a good cover over the pod intake these days

Re: Avalanches and other AWD Holdens Pics and Qs

love the look of the wide tyres mate, i had 275s on the rear of my avalanche for a year or so and it looked tough.

but i mean bigger tyres rolling diameter wise. to gain more offroad ability, even somewhat, these things need better ground clearance. when i did some rough research before selling my avalanche i was under the impression some 255/55 all terrain tyres would hit on the spring seat on the strut. i'm guessing the x5 rims have a wider offset which may reduce that problem. from the pics above it looks like it clears that spot.

it looks like the 255/55s above were touching against the back of the front bar area, which to fix might mean a revised front end. if you were planning to beef an adventra up for offroad, a bullbar of some description might be on the cards anyway, so you could always reduce the chance of tyre hitting by modifying the steel bar to sit further away from the tyre. or somehow modify the existing plastics?

i think some all terrain or mud tyres and a suspension lift should make these things a fair bit more capable. or would you just be let down by the awd system when the going gets tough?

The tyre choice for these cars are the biggest let down .
If only holden had gone with the 235/60-18 - 255/55-18 29 inch range .

    I had 245-50-18 27 1/2 inch M3's on it for a while , on those X5 rims ,
but they just scraped on full lock on the drivers side , not much
where the battery box makes a squre bump in the guard .

I put in 5mm spacers , made little differance ,
so they came off after 500 kays .

If ya got a BMW , AUDI or Bentley and want a set of 255/50-18 M3 snow tires ,
    $1800.00 and they're yours .

So I got another set of Dunlop M3'S in the factory 245-45-18
and have gone full circle , just love the tread pattern and the grip .

So , what would it take .

I'd start with an adventra or cross8 with 17 inch wheels ,
alot more offroad tire options .

The back aint the problem , ya can get 31 inches in there , but raise it 2''

The front has to be raised and from the bottom of the bumper cut off ,
    for some approach .

    255-45-18 rear 245-50-18 front

    245-50-18 27 1/2 inches next to 255-45-18 27 inches

    12 inch 33's

I picked up a set of land rover rims with 255/55-20 on them ,
will post a pic with them on it , there 30 inch , won't work , but hey .
