Re: Avalanches and other AWD Holdens Pics and Qs

Here's some pics of my Cross 8, nowhere near as flash as your HSV rides, but then I don't have to worry who is parking next to me. The previous owners treated it fairly roughly, so I don't have go nuts worrying. The exhaust is going to be changed, and it is going to get a dyno tune, and I'm giving the wheels some serious consideration.

Hey guys the silver addy with the xr8 type bonnet on it has all the flares etc painted body colour. Was this factory option or have they had them taken off an resprayed?

The holdens always have just the black plastic flares etc...... Hsv's are body colour.

My Partner LOVES her AWD Holden.. Bought brand new (VZ CX6) It's been everywhere from Esperance to Karajini National park and all in between.. It swallows an absolute house load of gear, and just keeps on keepin on..

Here's some pics after the weekends polish up.. Come up a treat i think..

    Don't dream it, DO IT....

There's a fair bit of choice in the 17'' range .

Welcome back to the dark side

    http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automo...er=AD004276605

    $119.00 plus 20 a tyre postage , $139.00 ain't too bad ,pity the load rating isn't right .

    Try here http://www.fourbys.com.au/index.php?...ge=shop.browse

queensland mob , but seem to have choice .
this Maxxis MA-V1 Surpasa this Maxxis MA-S1 Marauder or this good ol' Toyo Open Country

    would be my choice

I've been looking for some more All Terrain tyres for my Cross 8. There's some good options there, I really like the look of the Kumho KL12. I noticed that its load rating is 120, way higher than you need for a Cross 8 or Adventra, and the tread pattern looks similar to a the Pirtelli Scorpion ATRs. I remember a guy at Jax told me if I planning to go offroad, to get a higher load rating, for more sidewall protection.

the kumho is rather loud tho from wat ive been reading but im still not sure wat ill get. side strength will b important for heavy offroad as u should lower ur pressures alittle

Yeah, I've read some similar reviews myself, but I think it was only in premium cars, BMWs etc. that had the problem, X-trail drivers don't seem to have the same issues, might be something to do with the larger sizes. I'll be fitting a louder exhaust and stereo soon anyway, probably won't notice the tyre noise.

Re: Avalanches and other AWD Holdens Pics and Qs

ok well after looking around and more research i think im just going to have to change tyre size, to find a true AT tyre not just a HT tyre. I'm thinking of 225/60R17 (702mm dia 23mm 3.3% bigger) or even possibly 235/60R17 714mm dia 35mm 5.1% bigger than stock).
If i was to go the 225/60 it opens up for the yokohama Geolander AT-S while giving 14mm more to ground clearance (all counts) and is a proper AT tyre.
Just not sure what the law is on wheel size difference allowed but i'm sure 3.3% isnt going to be such an issue

Re: Avalanches and other AWD Holdens Pics and Qs

It'll rub at the front .

my factory size is 245/45-18 = 26.7 inches or 678 mm

I went to 255/45-18 = 27 inches or 685 mm, just rubbed on full lock .

    Then went to 245/50-18 = 27.7 inches or 704mm , rubbed on full lock , I put 5mm spaces , no good .

So i went back to factory size when they had a close out sale for dunlop Winter Sports M3's 100V.

The back will take a huge tyre 29'' even 30 inch ,
    the front's the problem .

Stick with the factory size , after all stepping up to 704mm is only going to give you a 13mm height rise .

and with 17's you have more choice than I did .

You could get a set of 16 inch steelies for off roading , then you would have even more choice .

If holden were smart they would've fitted 29inch rubber , like X5'S and such .
this would've opened up alot more choice of rubber .
