1983 GJ Sigma Wagon
This beast has been my daily driver for some time and is without double one of the coolest sleepers going!
What started as a very clean granny spec Sigma has been reborn with modern v8 power, a tough driveline and big brakes all while retaining its very stock appearance and superb driveability.
Engine
LS1 from a WK Statesman, only travelled 80,000km comfortable kilometres at the hands of an elderly gent. It remains stock bar custom extractors/exhaust (3 inch all the way with straight through muffler and truck muffler to keep it quiet as possible whilst keeping good flow), cold air induction with K&N filter and a mafless tune. Standard these were 235 kw, with the mods this is punching out quite a bit more, with a lot more potential possible with further modifications.
Custom engine mounts, custom made alloy radiator, Craig Davies thermo fan etc etc.
Gearbox
4l60E from the WK also 80,000km on it.
Diff
Early Hilux diff currently with a 4.11 ratio spool but also comes with a 3.58 LSD.
Brakes
Front Hopper Stoppers 300mm BA Falcon upgrade
Rear MA70 Toyota Supra Disc conversion
Dual Diaphragm Booster and BA Falcon Master Cylinder.
Gauges
Magna Elite LED Dash, all accurate and working- very retro! Also Dakota Digital speed converter which allows quick and easy speedo calibrations. Spare dash included.
Wheels
15” Falcon steelies with front offset modified and rears modified to 8” wide, all fitting comfortably in the large factory arches. Good tyres.
Suspension and Steering
New generation Monroe shocks front and rear (very good)
Late model Sigma Power Steering
Castor/camber/wheel alignment all dialled in accurately.
A huge amount of work has gone into this car to make it both reliable and fast whilst keeping the unassuming factory appearance. Being a stockish motor in a light car it maintains excellent road manners and is a pleasure to drive. Its very quiet, attracts no police attention and can shut down just about anything it runs against. The look on people’s faces as their SS/Falcon/Porsche/WRX etc gets done by a Sigma is of course priceless!
The best bit? Its 100% engineered and legal for NSW.
Consider swaps for xa xb xc coupe (cash either way), xw/xy ute (cash my way), manual xr6 turbo (cash my way or possibly straight swap)
