Is it just the plastic tongue that has broken ?? I super glued mine back on a couple of years ago & it has performed flawlessly ever since.
Hi All.
Yes it is the small plastic tongue i did try to super glue with out success i will buy a new unit and replace it.
Thanks for all your help.
You can buy these on ebay
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLDEN-V...75.c100623.m-1
I also have an idea that the Falcons use the same part,
obviously confirm this before you buy but for the Falcons you can buy both parts
of the clips & they are easy to replace.

&

(This second linked Falcon part is from the same seller as the Holden part I listed first in this post so it should not be hard to confirm fitment with a message to this seller.)

Yes these plastic latches are the biggest piece of crap any manufacture has produced.
In the VXII I've gone through 3 over 16 years by NOT USING the compartment, but age and a few accidental uses will break them.
Either the flexible gripper pawls or the latch internally gives out.
2nd now comes in are Engine oil dip sticks on most modern GM products where the steel blade finishes at the seal, naturally they fatigue / snap off
above the boss where a thin piece of plastic connects the handle.
FFS who designs this stuff - graduate engineers on their first day in - why aren't any old time engineers with practical commonsense supervising or approving?
What annoys me more with GM, they don't go back to the supplier or their designer and REVISE / UPDATE the design.
They just keep producing the same stuff they already know fails.... they know it by reading their warranty claims and spare - sales.
Not much of an incentive to fix a 20 cent clip selling at over $30 retail at the dealer is there?
But the public might remember next time they go to purchase a new car.
Purchased a new compartment for $110.00 from the dealer and replaced the whole thing. Didn't have to remove the console completely just the screws at the back and front and then just lift up the console high to remove the 2 screws that hold the compartment in place. Not a good idea they should have screwed it from inside the compartment not the bottom.
After my plastic tongue broke I too used super glue with a little success for a month or 2 then broke off and disappeared into the spring clip.
Rather than waste money on another flimsy part i removed the lid spring and now just lightly press down on the passenger side to pop up to open.
I also removed the spring clip and just put a small rubber grommet in the hole for the lid to rest on when closed.
