Service intervals for a car that gets very little use?

I bought my 2001 VX SS brand new and have had it serviced every 6 months from new, in the early days I did a lot more km than I do now.
The car has only done 94,000km from new but most of that was in the early years, I checked the sticker the mechanic puts on the inside of the
windscreen and in the last 7 months it has just clicked over just on 1000km. I always keep track of things like brake fluid, coolant and things that have
a life span in years and get them done but starting to think spending $200 to $300 odd dollars on an oil and filter change ever 1000km seems maybe a bit of an overkill.

Most of my trips these days are short, ie doctors appointments, shopping etc so it does not get the 2 to 3 hour highway trips it had in the early days.

Also my age and health issues sort of make it hard for me to crawl around under the car these days.

Do you think an annual oil change and filter etc and a general safety check would suffice, the mechanic uses a 10w40 semi synthetic oil in it, the car really
does not get driven hard at all, but the short trips bother me a bit if I stretch it to an annual service.

    Appreciate your thoughts.

I think an annual oil / filter change & general safety check would be fine Drewie.

My GTS has done less than 5000km's in the past 10 years and I only do annual servicing.

I have heard that mineral oils can break down due to time (regardless of how much you do or don't drive the vehicle) so I run Penrite Racing which is full synthetic and won't break down like a mineral oil.

Thanks for the advice, might try the annual service.
