    LS1 Sump gasket leak

    Hi Everyone

My LS1 Calais is leaking a bit of oil from the LH rear corner of the sump. Leaks when engine is running. Guessing is going to be a new sump gasket. Noticing the flange underneath the leak area. Is their an oil pressure gallery in that spot

My 2004 WL Caprice 5.7 has the same oil leak.

Several mechanics have told me it's the rear main.
But when I clean all the oil away with degreaser and then check it after a few days driving I start to see drops of oil forming on the left last and the 2nd last rear sump bolts , and maybe a bit of oil above near where the gasket is.

The sump bolts appear to be tight, but I guess it could be the sump gasket ?
Does the engine have to be removed to replace the sump gasket ?

Where are these blanking plugs you mentioned ?
Can they just be screwed out and sealed with thread sealer and screwed back in ?

In the first pic the Op posted.

If you have a rear main leak it will be evident towards rear of engine bellhousing adjacent the transmission.
