Early to mid VF1 & some VF2's had faulty steering racks, should be warranty.
Hi all. This may be covered in another thread, but it's hard to sift through 34 pages of stuff.
My 2015 VF Calais V 6.0L has recently popped up a message on the dash "service steering lock".
On entering and when shutting down, I can't hear the solenoid activate/deactivate the steering lock.
Anyone else experienced this? Is it a safety related issue that Holden's should take care of?
Any input appreciated. Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mick, but I'm not sure it's the rack. Normally I can hear the solenoid unlock the steering column when I get in the car (in previous models you'd unlock it with your key), and when I turn the engine off by pressing the button on the dash, the solenoid would re-engage the lock (not sure if it was immediately or when I open the door). I think I'll call Holden and see how much of a runaround they give me.
Cheers, Mike
that msg as posted has nothing to do with the rack.
The column has an electric steering lock (in the absence of a key worked manual one)
They are known to fail.. hence the message
Start/stop vehicle a few times and see if msg stays. If it does, then off to a dealer
to have it fixed and the code cleared. That is NOT warranty either

My VF2 did this once when I got it, I scoured the net for answers & was advised not to leave these cars parked in a full lock as it will throw this message.
Quick note to all.
The mighty Calais fixed itself. Had an appointment booked with my tame auto sparky, and the message went away, and I can hear the solenoid/servo engage and disengage.
If only this was the norm.
Cheers, Mike
Hi all.
The quirky steering lock problem has returned on the Calais, and on my other car, a 2016, VF2 Redline ute. It's more of an annoyance than anything else, as a steering lock is hardly a theft deterrent.
There was a recall of some sort i remember , a family member received a letter from Holden for this problem on there VF Calais 6.0
