Another car added to the caryard

    Ute.jpg
Yes another car this one a LS1 VY S1 6 SPD Ute
My son purchased this to use as a weeknd car when he is able to drive it in Nov this year ,he has been wanting a 6 spd manual.
Its tuned don't know by who ,mafless with a pod ,i would change that to an OTR ..
Goes well no noises speedo is out 10 k 60 is 70 i am guessing the diff has been changed can someone confirm that for me ,oh and what ratio would it have been if anyone could give me an idea ,and how do we get that changed,i will go over it a bit more when not so hot .
Now i need to find somewhere to park it .

The cluster/ecm can be changed easily with adjusting the PPK value with a scanner. About 5mins work.

This thing is nuts, haven't driven a tuned Ls1 for a bit but pretty effortless getting the wheels to do silly things.
Better get my ss tuned at some stage.
Oh it has paceys hi flo cats and a twin 3 inch no resi bit loud for an old fart like me but kyle likes it.

I would guess someone has changed the 3.46 diff gears for 3.91.

You might find this thread a worthwhile read...

    http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...iff-Gearing-M6

A manual with 3.91 gears in the back will feel heaps faster than your bone stock auto with it's original 3.07 diff gears
1st gear in yours might even be taller than 2nd gear in the ute.

Here is a thread with auto ratios...

    http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...iff-Gearing-A4

If you want to get yours tuned, I am sure different members would give you opinions as to where to go
but I would advise you to make your choice after a lot of research as there are some dangerous cowboys around.

    Edit:

I have copied & pasted a couple of interesting specs from linked threads

Your Auto 3.07 diff in 2nd gear at 6200rpm
Top Speed in 2 gear = 148.390 KPH

6 spd Manual 3.91 diff in 3rd gear at 6200rpm
Top Speed in 3 gear = 145.638 KPH

So your auto will go faster in 2nd than his in 3rd gear.

Thanks for that, i will get under it and see if the sticker is on the diff might not be.
But thanks for that bit of info, in first it will go sideways it has a decent amount of grunt that's one thing i will say.
I don't know if anything else has been done to it, by the sound of the idle it could have a mild cam in it, sounds a lot different to my stocky.

It would likely have the old original sticker on the diff with the old diff ratio still on it.

Most people do not change the sticker.

With the exhaust that you say it has, it will sound heaps tougher than a stock car even if it has a stock cam.

Is there any way you can get some history of the car to find out exactly what it is and who did what?

Stupid here realized after i took a photo of the sticker 2.87 mm not likely then i thought idiot change of gears not the diff .
I will ask the yard if they have any info on it ,didn't have any in the glove box i will let them know the speedo is out i will get that looked at asap.
Also need to fix a little right rear tail brake light issue ,brake is a tail light and tail light the brake .
Needs oil and filter i will sort that out tomorrow.
Then find a place that will insure it for him,any suggestions -Shannons i think ,others no go at this stage .
Its had a whack i the left front just the guard i picked that with fitment Kyle will get that looked at he wants to fix the things that need fixing between now and Nov.
Needs the gaurds rolled or a different set of rims ,the offset on the back is chewing the sides of the tyres 20 x i dont know what width has a 245/30/20 on the back and 225/35 on the front fronts are ok.
It is nice to drive i like a manual ..

After market larger wheels could put the speedo out because of different size & the diff could still be original.

You would have to do more homework to find out what is what?

The 20 inch wheels & tires would ride harsher & possibly affect an insurance policy.

AFAIK The VYSS came out with a 17 inch wheel although they had an 18 inch option.

It is a harsh ride if need be i can swap wheels over for insurance purposes ,or he goe's to a smaller rim and tyre ,the ones it has on it look nice though, plenty to look at and lots of time to get things sorted out and fixed or replaced.
    Thanks for the help.

If you bought the car from a dealer he should have given you the previous owner details if the car was from South Australia.

Phone and ask if you can't find it in your paperwork.
