2009 VE SS-V check engine and ESP lights...

    Hi guys

Whilst my wife was dropping the kids of at school the check engine light came on as well as the ESP lights, the engine sounds mechanically ok but at idle or slow cruise it shakes like a big block in a 7 sec dragster.

Checked oil seems good as is pressure on dash guage, checked spark plus leads all on ok. Tried battery reset but same thing,

Any ideas before i get it checked? If it's not to sinister i will drive it to a workshop otherwise i'll get it towed.

    Thanks in advance.

You could check injectors, but I'd suggest rechecking the leads as the starting point - it can be hard to sense that they're not properly seated.

yep i did check them, i actually removed them and put back on, no work has been done since last service and at 28000k's they should not have touched them anyway.

Is it possible that a plug has failed? They are long life plugs but it definitely seems like it has a miss, also i took it for a short drive and it slams home into gears rather than slipping in.

I wouldn't rule out a plug (or a faulty lead), but if it's ignition then a coil pack could be the culprit - these seem to fail more often than the plugs.

Turns out it's dropped a lifter on cylinder 6, under the rocker cover the valve wasn't moving. Stupid AFM crap. Trying to convince the warranty company now to put a DOD removal through it to prevent from happening again. The compression in the cylinder was also on 20psi.

Valve springs etc all apparently look ok is there anything else you would recommend that i get them to look? (they are a performance workshop so should know what they are doing).

When i purchased the car i purchased an extended warranty, so hopefully they will cover it.

They have been contacted and now want the workshop to strip the head of and take photos etc of the lifter ( at my cost $440 unless it's broken).
So hopefully the thing is toast and hopefully it's damaged the cam etc so all that needs to be fixed as well... lol workshop reckons they'll help me out if ya know what i mean.

So it was mechanical. Given it wasn't making a racket the cam might be OK. If they pull the cam make sure they drop the sump so the oil pick up o-ring doesn't get pinched and affect your pressure.

Funny you say that, they are dropping the sump for an unrelated warranty issue as well, last service there was evidence of sweeping on the rear main, they are going to fix that as well.

Not to good for a car that has only done 28,000km's and is always serviced regardless of k's with good oil and has only ever seen BP Ultimate as well. Couldn't really say it gets hammered, still on factory set of rubber too.

LOL i only drive it on the weekends with the family, got one of those blue oval GS things for work! My wife drives it to the local shops, school etc... It get's plenty when i get in it, no burnouts though. Pretty happy with the factory rubber with k's like that i wouldn't hesitate to pay the extra for them.
