    L67 Info wanted

So the Astra I inherited from dad when he died is just about cactus time for us to think about another car as we need 2 cars, the budget is not going to be enough to get another LS1 powered Commodore unfortunately.
So it has to be a V6 but looking at prices and it seems that the supercharged V6's will also be in my price range and for some stupid reason I've always wanted one.
Just wondering if anybody has any experience with these engines, whats the reliability of them compared to a plain V6 and what I should look for when I'm looking at them.
This going to be my run around car to drive to work and back and picking up the kids from school when I don't have a press car.
I had a Calais V press car a few weeks ago and it made me miss having a big sedan plus an older commodore is easy to work on parts are cheap.

    Cheers,
    Wayno

Reliable engines, pretty well designed for their day (First appeared in the VS). Power limited by tune (Couldnt make more than the 5L V8 so artificially capped). They are thirsty engines, probably go ok in a lighter car like the VS but in the WHII statesman i found it a little underpowered. Personally if you cant afford the LS1 and have to go a V6, id focus more on the car rather than specifically looking for a super6.

That said, with a W2A intercooler and a tune they can be very quick/economical. In fact id say a intercooled/tuned super6 would be more economical and powerful than a stock LS1. Of course a stock LS1 with tune would be faster...

How much you looking at spending? I picked up a VY Berlina LS1 Wagon on injected LPG last year for $8k. I got it tuned and converted to manual for a daily driver and its been damn impressive... Cheap to run with plenty of power on tap. Id imagine sedan LS1s should be pretty cheap these days....

Yeah not concerned whether its the blown 6 or not it will be all down to the car, but since I know bugger all about them I better start doing research, not looking at spending a whole lot and it will stay stock.
For some stupid reason I've wanted a blown V6 since I owned my old crappy V6 VS.

A cooled and tuned L67 making 220rwkw in a VT-VY will run 12.9-13.2 sec 1/4 mile day in day out and run on the sniff of an oily rag on the highway. Torque turns tyres is the old saying and peak torque of the stock L67 cam is around 2400rpm so it's all in nice n early and sustains all the way to 6000rpm well.

Nugget engines but they are cheap, work well and the charger is good and robust when over driven. I've done many of them and never tire of the response of them tbh.

My brother in law had a super six and recently bought a 2012 VE II SV6. He had an 02 VY Calais, definitely they are reliable engines. I think he bought it in 2009 with 200,000 Km on it. At the time I just thought Kms are too high, but he had it until late last year and he was starting to have problems with it, but I think his Kms by then were about 370,000 so he was quite happy with it considering the Kms on the car and it gave him very little trouble until just before he got the SV6. Sometime ago I wouldn't have minded a Super 6 also. I was thinking a VS II Calais would have been all right, but I bought a '02 LS1 VXII Calais in early 2010 with just 55,000 Km on it - sunroof in Delft blue. I had a VS II Exec new in 1997 which I sold in 2011. Good luck with the purchase, if your keen on the Super six maybe you can still find a good '04 VYII.

We've had our VY Calais with the super 6 since 215,000kms. Has now just passed 325,000kms and still going strong. Mr's does about 550km a week in it and its always averaging 9.5 or so L/100km.

Only things that have let us down since purchase - Radiator, rear thermostat hose, oil pressure switch and LIM gaskets.
Only mods i've done to the car is a VY HSV twin exhaust and the 2 hole mod to the air box.
