Great, i sold my motor last week. Looks like i may have to drag the parisienne out and make an absolute fool of myself! Not that thats anything new!
Just entered for the SCCA 400m Drag Meeting at Tailem Bend on September 5th. Cost was $65, entry and supp regs at the Sporting Car Club of SA website (being a member of the Porsche Club they emailed them to me, but I cant see them on the site yet). Limited to 100 spots. Interesting to see how many from here enter. The dreams of the "I would race my car if we had a track" crew have been answered

It would be nicer if it was closer to home eg pt adelaide, but its better than nothing and atleast price seems resonable
but the dream of having a round of ANDRA pro series in adelaide continues
how am I going to get the king and the ve up there , dam..
Ill have to pik 1.....
I hear you pmac, but just over an hour up the freeway beats seven or eight hours over to Victoria....
Its interesting to see how CAMS are pulling the strings on this one, with no mention of ANDRA. The good news is that safety standards will be different with 2010 model SRS equipped cars not needing to be butchered like a junker 50s jalopy if they run a 10
Anyone into this better do it quick, as they say 'Talks cheap wheres the timecards!'
is that 1/4 or 1/8th mile ?
Quarter mile with no safety fences i bet, hmm, bit iffy.
If it becomes a regular thing might have to save up for some drag radials.
Is that at the old Mitsubishi testing ground? I heard that the SCCSA were looking at buying the whole complex at one stage a while ago.
That is the venue - Seymour Testing Facility - used to be Riverbend Raceway in the 70s I believe and its a genuine 400m not a half run 200m
As for safety and walls on a striahgt piece of track, imagine Mallala then, 120mph with 1.3 lateral G sideways on the car and only a tyre wall and embankment as your friend (or enemy). Its called 'the kink' and 100 people a weekend go through it without crashing
Straight lines in street cars arent real hard
Cams scrutineering is - very - thorough, so not shitboxes will get though
Normally battery triangle, fire extinguisher (1kg for a roadie), tow hooks, and complete safety inspection are required to pass for track entry. I cant see this as being too much different

- SA has been waiting around five years for this -
It a business case for any other track investor. If the Sporting Car Club dont fill this and fast you couldnt really expect anyone else in their right mind to put money into a drag racing facility
Should be a good day out, got the entry form sent to me but I wont be in the state at the time. For those who are interested I reckon it would pay to look into the cams licensing for it. Last time I raced with these guys you could get one for the day ,this probably wont be the case here. Looks like a good way for the SSCSA to increase membership which wouldn't hurt the cause at all.
Would spectators be allowed on the day?
It would be a good day of watching.
Whats happening to drag racing in SA???
Thats great news for the SA boys ST, there have been that many members on here wishing for a Track in SA, now you have one ......BUT sadly though so far all I have seen is excuses and ppl looking for reasons NOT TO GO....you South Australians are a weird bunch .
Get behind it, make it work, Tailembend is not that far from town FFS....
Great news, can't wait to see the old place open again.
Here is a link to a video of the track 30 years ago.
