very common failure for anything over 300rwkw or with big convertors.
can get TCI item from VPW for pretty cheap. i recommend friends upgrade when they go a stall or get gearboxs upgraded. also to use ARP blots to crank, kit comes with longer convertor bolts. make sure they are loctited on.

well going for a uprated plate from the us and still waiting to find out if theres anything esle broken ,tuner is going to check the end float on the crank when the box is off to make sure its not knackered the trust washers on the crank as this is a new engine and can't afford any more damage to that ,does the new plate need to be shimmed as its an uprated one any help would be great cheers rick

that is really really weird, i don't see how it would of pushed the whole crank etc forward. the convertor will sit in place resting on the box input. are you 100% postivie something funny isn't going on with the engine builder.
most people upgrade to the 4L80, but there are a few things to swap over. search and you will find it. depends really how much power and how much you want to spend.
1) fix 4L60E, but prob build it to 4L65E specs, $AU3100, but max 400rwkw
2) go 4L80E, >400rwkw, box and conversion, $5-8k?
3) TH400, 400++, cheaper than 4L80 but 3-speed

the car has a 6l80 box in now so can't see a4l65 being the way forward mate ,as to the engine builder can't see him making it up as he is the best we have in the uk and a second to none rep .but when all this started the engine did turn over slowly when trying to start ,he told me the plate was in two pieces and wegde together pushing the stall back damaging the back of the stall and pump houseing ,was'nt there when it was taken apart so god knows but the company is very good and honest and i do trust them always been great to deal with looks like really bad luck on my part ,to be honest wish i had left standard now its cost a fortune to get a knackered car

the convertor can move freely, even by hand, a cm or 2 back onto the spline of the auto if the bolts are undone. stock flexplate are pretty thin. if it sheared around the ring in the middle, typical failure, i still don't understand how it can make that much mess. unless the bolts were done up properly or some other crank issue. thats my opinion.

good luck sorting it out.

thanks for the info mate ,i think the only way it did the thrust bearings is if the stall balloned and pushed forward and that helped break the plate

at 500hp at the wheels, i find that difficult to believe. a relatively solid convertor isn't going to grow 1-2cm or enough to push into the crank and back against the trans pump. as i said there is a bit of room to play with. what brand convertor??
its really hard to say without pics of the flywheel, though. but damage is done.
