VIN Manufactured date confusion

So I have finally bought a car! I now have a VY SV8, M6, Red Hot and it brings a smile to my face everytime I press the "go fast" pedal :D . Yes, its not as quiet or smooth as the XR6T or Liberty GT, but boy does it go! And its still stock!! Not sure about the numerous rattles and groans but its due for a service so I'll get to know it for a few more weeks before taking it in (strange noise/rattle from somewhere near the top of the gearbox/shifter under hard acceleration at around 3000rpm, handbrake on from left rear - a sort of clunk, click like the traction control coming on sound when first out into a gear and started moving, I think its idling a little low).
Now my question - the VIN indicates a 2003 build, but the rego papers say 09/2002 build and given that the 1st (and only other) owner picked it up as ex-demo with 1300Kms on 24/1/03, I'd say 2002 is correct.
Any ideas?

A 2003 model VY starts when the VY was released in 2002.
My VY SS is a september build and the vin has it as a 2003, and has been the same through each commodore I have owned.
Check the build date on the compliance plate on the firewall for the exact day your car was built.

The click you hear as you first start to drive off is just the traction control initializing... You get the same even if you give the go pedal a touch before you even go to move off.

There is a build date stamped on the other compliance plate....have a nander at that one :)

Ahh yes. Just ducked outside into the brisk Canberra air and the compliance plate says 18/09/2002.
