    My VZ Calais LS1

Ive been lurking around the forums for a few months now looking up information and searching for parts so i thought id post up some pics of my ride and say hi.

Always been a bit of a ford man but I wanted an LS1 for a while and decided to bite the bullet and sell my ford when i had my license suspended for a while. I started off in search of a VY-VZ SS in black with a manual and leather, after searching for months far and wide for an SS with exactly what i wanted and coming up short every time i ended up buying a Black VZ Calais 5.7ltr right around the corner at of all places a ford dealership!! in the end the Calais had everything i wanted except for the manual part.

I bought the car pretty much 100% stock except it came with a nice sounding 2.5" twin catback exhaust

Heres some pics of when i first got it

I was hanging to take it out and see what it does down the 1/4 so heres an action shot from Heathcote Raceway

The car ran a 14.11 @ 99.69 mph with cat back only which i was pretty happy with, however, it couldnt beat a few stock ba xr6t's and got pretty slow after a few runs when the car heated up, so will have to do something about that im hoping a tune and better CAI will help with that a bit?

Since getting the car i have done the following mods,
    -Removed the towbar
-Lowered with ultralows in the rear and superlows in the front
    -19" VY GTS rims
-4 into 1 Difillipo extractors along with the high flow difillipo cats
    -Monaro/HSV Bianncle Gauges
-2 12" Alpine Type S subs which are hooked up to the factory headunit

Heres some pics of what the car looks like as it sits now just after the first time it was clay barred and polished.

No they arent my marks on the road i just thought would be a nice setting for a picture.

Plans are to pay it off and play around with the stereo a bit more and hopefully making it all work with my steering controls. After that i wouldnt mind getting the following fairly soon:
    -3.46 lsd
    -OTR CAI
    -Maflless tune

Id love to do some serious mods to it but its too far away atm and i dont wanna sound like a dreamer.

    Hope you like the pics.

    Cheers Max

Mate, tidy calais you have there. Good to see you are actually concerned about paying it off before loading it with countless mods.

Looks great with the GTS wheels and low stance, and black looks awesome. I'm pushing for the missus to get one of these for her next car!!

Hope you get many years of enjoyment out of the calais

That looks fantastic, I love the look of the GTS wheels on a low Calais.
Its gives a somewhat understated car a nice aggressive look without being over the top.

Those GTS wheels look like they were made for the Calais. Love it. A little too low for me to be practical but can't argue with the way it looks. Top stuff man.

Maybe think about doing 3.7 diff gears rather than 3.46 as you'll probably want more after doing 3.46.

    Re: My VZ Calais LS1

Thanks everyone for the comments, pretty happy with hows its turned out without spending alot of money no point going too nuts till i actually own more then half the car lol the only thing ive really blown money on is the rims all the other parts i bought pretty damn cheap when my mate sold off his VY SS.

Vulture - its not toooo bad with practicality i drove it with 3 people to summernats and a load in the boot didnt have too many worries but i get where your coming from. After the nats i was thinking about going ultralows in the front aswell after seeing a very hot VZ Clubby, sorta changed my mind after i could barely get into the shopping centre without some scraping, seems only the exhaust cops the damage so see what happens might still do it for a bit later down the track.
As for 3.7s i have thought about it my old fairmont ghia i put 3.7s in and loved it its just a matter of money 3.46 manual SS diffs seem to be going for around 450-500ish but any hsv 3.7s diff i see is around 1k, seems alot extra for not that much difference.

Ill get some more pics up tomorrow of when it had senators on and one for the stockie fans.

Its probably not the proper way to go about things but no i put them on the stock shocks and the ride seems pretty decent to me couldnt afford new shocks atm and had the springs sitting there so thought id give em a go
