    damaged vehicle auctions

I have been thinking of going to the damaged vehicle to pick up a VT/VX or even a VY
with some minor damage which I could fix and use as my daily
my question is does anyone on here regularly go to the auctions and what sort of coin could I pick one up for

Dpending on damage but if only minor more than likely it will go for a bit because there is not much to fix.depends on the day to sometimes you get alot of people and sometimes quiet.roughly vy minor damage around 7k then add your repairs, viv, rego.

Just a word of advice; if you do buy a vehicle at an auction, keep a mate next to the car (even if its a damaged one), pay for it, and get it towed out of the site straight away. Many cases where someone who was bidding for the same car and lost, comes back and vandalises it.

I go to Pickles at Canberra on the odd occasion and the prices cars get vary week to week. I've seen cars go cheap one week, and the same type car with similar damage go for a lot more. That said, there haven't been that many LS1's go through Canberra while I've attended. Best buy I saw was a hyper yellow VU SS ute, V8 Auto, stolen recovered. Interior had been stripped inc dash, PCM and a few bolt on parts from the engine, dent in tailgate and it went for $7k.

Also keep an eye out on stolen or repossed cars. Can be a good find too. A couple of months ago there was a VX V6 repossed by banks with 83k on the clock. It sold for 3k even. Cheap run about for someone.

Depends where you live too. In Melbourne Broadford car sales sell damaged ,repossesed , and stolen recovered vehicles. And some good buys there. But i guess there are heaps of places when you look around. As people have said depends on the day and the crowd.

GMMAD, I had a look at some advertised a 1998 Vt finance repo with front grille missing. Has done 180069 ks and asking $5,500. A 2000 VX with hail damage was going for $7990, and had done 209496 ks .Hope it gives an idea anyway.

just saw a VX SS 5.7litre manual sedan fresh water affected done 98089ks and asking $13850.

In that case, a VT sedan, approx 100,000km stolen recovered (only missing wheels) went for $2100.
A better buy was a 2005 VZ SV6 Phantom auto with 13000km went for $11000 (or 11000km for $13000 can't recall which way around it was)
damage was front bar, rh guard, driver door, and front right suspension.

my original plan was a VT but if VX or VY are cheap enough I may consider one

Yes the auctions are good places, but you just have to know what you want and how much you want to pay. I see people at auctions all the time that seem to get court up in it and end up paying more than what the thing is worth.

Thinking along the same lines, as my nephew has come across a low Km damaged VT HBD LS1. Sounds like it needs a reshell from what I have been told, so if I can find a VT2 or VX cheaply enough we'll go down that path.
Just about to check Ebay and Trading Post online too.

    Re: damaged vehicle auctions

You can pick up some good buys at auctions. Base models of both C ommodore/Falcons can be picked up for a decent price. You see a lot of buyers from dealers, but there wasn't much competition from them with the base models. Anything above they seemed to concentrate on.

    Re: damaged vehicle auctions

hey, dont know if your still after info. But my ute came from pickles (Perth). I had been looking for a while and when a Manual, V6, white, VU came up i was stoked. There was heaps of people looking at it but when bidding came it started off with a lot of people but it got to 3K and there was only me n the old man and 1 other guy bidding. I got it for $6900 plus their 3.3% fee for something.

Make sure though if your really confident about getting it that you dont show it. If you keep bidding the instant someone else does people might try and bid just because they know you will even if they hadnt planned to. That just what i observed on the day anyway.

You can sorta see the extent of the damage in my old my ride thread... HERE

    Cheers,
    Tim
