    VE HSV Brakes - Service

    Hey all,

Had my car in for routine service today. Just got off the phone to the dealership and they inform me that I need new brake pads in around 3000 kays.......they also inform me that the HSV policy with the VE's is that the rotors need replacing everytime you put new pads on....end result is a tidy sum of $3,500

Can somebody confirm this as I am not happy.....cant imagine what the minister for war and peace will say when she gets home

Sounds pretty rough to me. How many kms are on it? Pull a wheel off and have a look for yourself.

I'd expect atleast 50,000km from a set even with the odd spirited performance. Done many track days?

i guess your best bet is to ring HSV and see what they say.

looks like your dealer is taking their little "injector clean" profit schemes to new levels

As long as the are above the min thickness, give them a lights skim and put the new pads in.

Re: VE HSV Brakes - Service

My E series GTS is my 3rd HSV - there is no doubt the E-Series Rotors are crap compared to previous generations.

I had approx 60,000K on my VX and VY when sold, never did Pads or Rotors on either. With 30K on my GTS I was told I'd need pads fairly soon. (didn't mention rotors but they have not worn well)

Most E-Series cars I've seen show significant wear and groove around the edge of the front rotors.

Holden/HSV will quote you huge $$ and are a total rip off.

Mate of mine has a GTS coupe which use the 6 Piston AP Racing rotors, most performance shops can do these with pads for less than half the price Holden quote just on the rotors. I'd call Sonny from Marranos, he did my mates car, couldn't be happier.

    Cheers
    Dave

Done just on 39,000. No track days and only very occasional "spirited" driving bursts.

Ran my finger around the lip of the front rotors and there is significant wear. May look into non dealership supply + fitment but performance shops are few and far between here in the sunny capital. Perhaps my mates at Gentech can help, I will give them a call when they open up again next week.

    Cheers for all the replies.

Still picking up jaw from ground......

Re: VE HSV Brakes - Service

This is why I don't have the car serviced at Holden ... I'm on the 2nd set of pads / original rotors ... 47,000 kms.

Take the car to a good forum sponsor and get it serviced there.

    DENY YOURSELF NOTHING !!!

Re: VE HSV Brakes - Service

I just had a quick look on the DBA website and it appears that they don't manufacture rotors for E-Series HSV's

3.5K is bloody ridiculous though. I reckon rotors should be around $400 max each, so that's $1600 + pads $200. Still a long way from 3.5k with what I believe to be inflated prices.

Yeah, I just called a couple of brake specialists to get some other opinions and both of them couldnt find a listing for the rotors on their computer. One place did say they could try to machine the rotors and chuck on a new set of pads but they said they would have to check thickness first.

I guess its a compromise with good stopping = soft rotors and pads??

Re: VE HSV Brakes - Service

I can't believe this is the case... There would be a lot of VE HSVs that have needed new pads since their release and I'm sure there would have been HUGE issues with having to replace the rotors as well.

I'd address it as a warranty issue with the rotors not lasting anywhere NEAR long enough. I just checked my rotors and there is a bit of a lip around the outer edge. This could end up costing HSV a LOT in warranty claims. Time to check the service schdule in the handbook now. If there's nothing in there about replacement of rotors, warranty time.
