Haven't had a chance to try the AFM out yet as apparently it cuts in at around 100kmh and even on the stretch I could do that yesterday I didn't due to the scraping on even little bumps. Once I get that sorted (tomorrow) I aim to find out.

Good job on rims think the SSSL are a little low for 275's though awsome look

I thought I'd try them first and see...... My SSLs on the sedan were as low as most SSSLs are on utes and it had 275s on 20x10 rear rims and only really scraped if I had people in the back. Given I rarely intend having a load in the ute I thought I'd be OK, especially as the offset of the Boost I had on the sedan was 48 or 50p (I'm pretty sure) and on the Shines is 45p, which I was told is further in. When the guys rolled the guards they only did a little bit (playing safe) whereas on the sedan they were rolled to the max, so I'm hoping a bit more rolling will make them OK.

Thanks mate, but I think I'll just pull the AFM badges off and not put anything in their place. BTW - the Wonkymobile's new owner loved your 6.0 Litre V8 perspex for covering the centre gauges!

Nice ride height there - a shame about the scraping though - my car has the SSLs all round like in your old one, with the monroes too - havent rolled the guards, and even with a bootfull of mowers, it never scrapes (and i have the VE GTSs with 275 wide tyres!) - guess i am just lucky!


anyway, love the new ride mate - good luck with it!

Thanks Mark. From the outset I always loved the Shines better than Flairs but decided the narrow spokes didn't suit the bulk of the sedan, hence decided Flairs suited sedan better. Now I've got a ute it's Shines all the way!

Lid will be ordered shortly. Actually looking at one on eBay. Went and had a good "chat" to the guy who makes them last week and liked his approach. Turns out he makes and/or paints various parts for Holden, HSV, Ford, Toyota and even BMW, so is no fly by nighter or Johnny come lately. He knew several of the people I used to work with at HSPO and can make the lid totally smooth with no locks plus during the manufacturing process will mount blocks where the actuator guy tells him is the best position for them.

I have found a guy who has put an actuator kit together for hardlids for what seems a good price and he says he should be able to add a 3rd actuator to automatically open and shut the tailgate for me, all working off the one remote. He's tied up with another big project for the next week or so but will hopefully get back to me soon with all up price. James (being a bit of a gadget freak) like the automatic hardlid idea so will do it too.

I think everybody here will be very impressed when they see it in action! Quite a few will probably want one too! No locks needed as the actuators hold everything shut, so I can disconnect the tailgate latching mechanism altogether. Another problem solved!
