Is the tr6060 a straight swap for the t56 in the VE?

So far I've worked out that the 6060 runs a different input shaft spline which would require a new clutch plate, or a converted shaft. One would assume shifter mechs and sensors would be transferable but we no what assuming gets you. In any case I'll ring Mal Wood tomorrow to get some info.
I'll want the box ready to just shove in, so if there is any stuffing around, I'll just get an M12. Which is still better than what I've got.
Rang Mal today to discuss options. Basically its not a straight swap but he can re configure it to suit. He also mentioned that a reco MM6 will shift just as quick, which talked me out of the idea. Then we got on to ratios. I was quoted $2850 for a stock MM6 or $4000 for one with modified ratios. That on top of $250 postage ($500 both ways being an exchange arrangement) and it was starting to add up.
I then got on to my contact at Holden and I can get a brand new M12 for $3200 delivered. You have to change the pilot bearing which is another $60. $290 for fitting as I can't be stuffed doing it and we arrived at pretty much a cool $3500.
All in all a far better deal than what Mal could do for a box with better ratios than the MM6 anyway.
All,
Ive called HSV today and they confirm that all E series cars built from Sept 2008 (MY09) have the TR6060 in them.
All FG XR6/8, F6 and GTs run the TR6060 gearbox.
All HSV manuals are using the same box as well, although the linkages are slightly different.
The first 3 gears have triple sincros and the remaining 3 have 2 syncros (so does reverse).
The trick is finding a clutch to suit. Mal Woods modifications are worth the money - no question. From the factory the Fords use a new 290mm slef adjusting single plate clutch. On a recent track day at QR these all managed to last the day without any problems at all. I clearly remember a John Bowe drive day a couple of years ago when the F6 was first released - they used T-56 boxes with a twin plate clutch. There were 2 parked before lunch was served due to clutch failure.
Both the T56 (5 Litres) and the TR6060 (3.8 Litres) come out with ATF, both have notchy changes and both like the new Mainlube 154 Synthetic Solid Boundary E P Gear Oil SAE 75w90 cold flow formulation.
We have lost count with the T56's we have the Mainlube Gear oil in and between Holden and Ford we have around 30 x TR6060 on the Mainlube 154 gear oil. (we had the 154 in Fords TR6060 longer than Holdens)
Feed back with our new formulation with changes are much smoother.
Both these boxes need the oil up grading and a bung magnet if you expect longevity out of the box, the TR6060 is suffering similar wear to the T56 because of the ATF and loading when checking with Filtergram.
Although the TR6060 is basically an upgrade to the T56, reducing the oil by 1 litre is not a great idea to a heavily loaded gearbox.
Cheers
Steve
Has anyone worked out why they tend to lock you out of third on the 2 - 3 shift at high revs unless you do a granny shift?
Does the mainlude oil stop this?
