    Running E85 on a Blown LS1

    Just a question
I know it probably has been talked about before, i was thinking of running my
vx ss on E85 fuel, It is a standard LS1 with a stage 3 cam and a HH122 harrop supercharger.
What needs to be changed to run this fuel?
    Will it stuff my motor?
iv heard that when using E85 you need to use alot more of it so would it be worth running it or stick with premium unleaded?
    Thanks

    1. Not as readily availiable as 98 octane. (premium).
    2. A fuel system able to flow the extra needed for e85. (injectors/fuel pump.

But will make slightly more power due to being able to take more timing than "normal" premium.

Is it worth it for a daily driver? Not in my opinion.

About to go E85 myself N/a though. On a blown motor you should see great gains 30rwkw+. Needs about 30% more fuel so bigger pump/injectors depending on your current setup.

do you know with the E85 using more fuel does it still work out cheaper to run or bout the same as premium

e85 is cheaper, but you use for, from memory, it works out a little cheaper in the end, but... you have the extra cost of the tune, injectors, pump.

One of the sponsors talking about doing a setup up to be able to switch tunes between E85 and petrol, have a search, nifty idea

IMO i would be adding a surge tank to that list, especialy if running F/I.

I have one for sale, have just put up a thread for it, it is ideal for E85/Petrol.

    Re: Running E85 on a Blown LS1

Hey guys, Sorry for the slight thread dig, but I thought I would raise my questions here rather than start another E85 related thread.

I am currently running a single turbo LS1, tuned at 8 psi on 98 pulp. The car is fitted with an external Bosch 044, surge tank and 60lb Seimens Injectors.

    So, after reading alot about the benefit of E85 in FI, I am curious to know if;

    - My fuel system is adequate for an E85?
    - Running E85 will allow also me to increase boost safely to 10 psi? (I should note that engine itself has 79,000 km’s, and apart from upgraded Valve springs, has standard internals.)

    Cheers!

Without doing the sums, you will more than likely need larger injectors(80lbers or 100lbers) and a second pump.

The question of safely on 10psi is well different to each individual and your tuners capabilty. I would do it without hesitating.

Luke is on the money,I'm in the process of setting up my ss with a supercharger and running it on eflex(e85),
I'm running 100lbs injectors, surge tank with twin 044 pumps and a return line, you should be able to squeeze more boost but it's upto your tuner.
The room for improvement in the tune when running e85 to 98ron fuel is world's apart and the results speak for themselves.

You will need bigger injectors around 1000cc and an extra 044.
I was running 14psi with standard internals making around 390rwkw with no problems on 98 octane.
I have just forged the bottom end because of the power increase that E85 will provide.
I'd do it without thinking twice about it.

    Re: Running E85 on a Blown LS1

Thanks for the replies guys - I like the "do it without hesitation" attitude haha, it has given me motivation... dangerous motivation!

I was concerned that on an internally stock LS1, it wasn't worth the risk of pushing it any further, as I have always thought that If I wanted more than my current setup, i'd have a strong engine built.

I don't believe my fuel system has provisions for a second 044, so i would probably need to re-think the whole fuel delivery side of things if I wanted to get an E85 tune.

    Re: Running E85 on a Blown LS1

Im keeping a careful eye on my E85 usage. My car (stock at this stage) is averaging around 13.2 l/100 on 98 Octane and about 16.1l/100 on e85.

Rough figures, 12 litres more per 450ks, or $12.60

Cost to fill tank 98 Octane $105 approx
Cost to fill tank E85 approx $72 plus 12.60 to make same mileage,

    450km 98 Octane $105
    450km E85 $84.60

About $20 in front. Considering I do approx 800ks a week, thats a slab.
