    Walt's FD RX7 V8 L98 6 Litre circuit race car

    G'day my name is Steve

I have been building an FD RX-7L98 6 litre for the past year or so.
I reckon its a marriage made in heaven. The superb FD chassis with the world's best lightweight, compact, affordable engine.

It is a fairly high spec car even by US standards and they have built MANY FDs with LS1 to LS7.

It had a brief shakedown last Friday at Eastern Creek and a short test seesion at Wakefield yesterday

It did 5 CONSECUTIVE laps in the 1.03's even though it had a severe tailshaft vibration and the brakes and handling need lots of sorting. It should be pretty quick when sorted.

It is entered in the Wakefield 300 endurance race this weekend and if we have sorted out tailshaft vibration by then it should be somewhere near the pointy end.

TOP TEN SHOTOUT at 4pm Saturday. Race 2pm Sunday.

All welcome especially if you want to help out in any way. No experience necessary and its a fantastic race meeting. We need people on tyre pressures, tyre temps, wheel changing, refuelling etc!

If you want to help out no point in posting or PM ing as I am heading to the track but if you want to help, just out call me on 0428 219888. I have a 5 bedroom house nearby that the team is staying at.
    Thanks!

    Steve

Here is link to incar footage of Top Ten Shootout.

I know the car looks loose but it was under the GT3 lap record (according to the Wakefield website) and the car had less then an hours track time since the build was "finished" the night before.

This is like my ultimate car! I love my V8's and I love the rx7.. Put them together and you get this animal! Wish I was there to see the beast in action.
Imagine this as a street car

Thanks John. It had had less than one our of track time when that shootout was done and the tyres were not up to temp.

It is very deceptive to drive. Feels slow but its not especially when you pass other fast cars.

I did my fastest ever lap at WP after about 10 laps in it. I still only have 22 laps in the dry in it under my belt

If we can sort the suspension and get it to stop it will be much nicer to drive and should be consistent then so more drivable

At the moment it is a bit overwhelming to be honest!
