Thanks ittwgn, perfect info.
What sort of hp you at to get up around 140mph?
Hey mate,
With 3.73's you will be fine for a while with a 26x8.5" slick. With those I was hitting overdrive with the 26" tall slicks but I wouldn't have been hitting it with 3.73's. I did end up running the 28x9" slicks and they worked well with poly air bags and 8mm spacers with a little inner guard "massaging". Running them allowed me to not hit overdrive but I didn't run any faster that day as track prep was terrible and it was stinking hot. Overall still with the gearing and tyre choice you have and you should be fine. BTW I ran a 1.57 60' time at Heathcote on those same slicks.
Thanks ittwgn, perfect info.
What sort of hp you at to get up around 140mph?
Hey Brett,
Thanks for the info. My best 60ft with the current above mentioned setup and 235/60/15 MT ET streets is 1.57sec. Been doin some searching in between posts and do you guys think there is anything to gain going to a 26x8 slick? Correct me if im wrong, and i probably am but isn't a 235/60/15 the same diameter as a 26" slick? So maybe wouldn't help me not to hit 4th gear before the finish line?
ittwgn,
Any problems fitting a 255/60/15 MT ET under the back of a VZ?

Good work mate, I assume that 60' time was at Calder? If so the prep has usually been better there than Heathcote. My best 60' time on drag radials was 1.66 at Heathcote as I needed to pedal it off the line.
I don't really think you will 60' heaps better if you aren't getting wheelspin now and with slicks if you are running lower tyre pressures you will probably lose a little mph due to the lower pressures and higher rolling resistance. I tested this theory on the same day by running the same drag radials and slicks you have and even though I picked up some 60' with the slicks I went 2mph slower.
Yeah there are some traction issue's getting off the line, have to be carefull with the throttle application.
Might just go with some 90/10's in the front and standard fe2 springs and shocks in the rear. Maybe play with the shift points and limiter and see what I can get out of that......??????
Will post results.
So are you guys all still running stock A4 4L60E auto's ?
If you are bordering on traction now then getting full slicks will make it easier, I went from pedalling it off the line to being able to mash it full throttle. I'm already running 90/10's in the front with standard FE2 front and rear also.
The shift points and limiter will help out a little as I always play with that but it will mainly be after the 60' mark that will help. What stall do you have again? Another thing some people do is pull out some timing around your launch RPM so that your launch is a little softer...
stick with 235/60/15, i managed 11.3@ 119 with 1.53 60ft last time at calder with excellent track prep with 21psi in the tyres and probably could've run more to get a little wheelspin. unfortunately smashed 5 crown wheel teeth (due to side loading of pinion without the little extension on the VT-VZ gears). although getting rebuilt with bigger M80 centre and VZ 4.11's. pushed first change out to 43kmh or roughly 6825, although limiter set at 6900; kept it in 3 and didn't hit the limiter over line. definitely keep the smaller 26" radial, but set the rear end with FE2 springs. that car already has 90/10's, just need to get heat into those radials.
if you go to 26" slick you will loose mph and may not get better 60ft. if you go to a 28" slick or even 255/60/15, you'll go slower again, unless you do drop to 4.11's. this is without possible gains in 60ft. this is what i've learnt from a lot of back and forth with Markone2 who's probably got most out of auto 60fts and lsx racing. also, go to bigger tyre you have to play with gearing and changes. smaller 235/60/15 with the right pressure and suspension set-up will work. proven before.

Sorry to jump in here, just a quicky, will Monroe low shocks still be ok with swapping over to a taller spring for the track? Or is it worth while buying another set for track?
Cheers
There's been a few different owners since dogballs. The 90/10's are long gone out of this car. I replaced all the running gear when i bought it with the gear out of my VZ SS, engine, tailshaft, diff, driveshafts, interior and along with the front shockers as they were leaking badly! Pretty much nothing left in the car from when dogballs owned it.
