Seeing as this is the last piece of your combo, try a practical test. Install the stock rockers, rotate the engine and have a look at what the stock rocker is doing at your max lift, then factor in if you have bronze valve guides and rpm. After seeing this for myself i went out and bought aftermarket shaft mount rockers lol

Plenty use the stockers and they flat out work, no argument there, but i didn't like seeing what they do with high lift (.600+) trying to get the wipe right at over that lift was a PITA too

I asked you once if you were also on LS1 TECH...you need to be, Seems you've only been on here for 2 yrs & have only had limited experience of others misfortunes.
Spread your wings man & read about the LS motors from the guys that know them best & where they come from.
After being on there since 04 I have certainly come across many threads with needle bearing failure.
Those guys & a huge amount of them all race their cars, street, strip, circuit.

Aust as big as it is, is small fry compared to the amount of guys modding the LS motors in the US
I think you will find Pete knows FAR more than you do - he works on the motors himself and doesn't just read stuff on a screen where you NEVER hear the full story behind failures

if all you have to back up you THEORIES is the net then in all fairness YOU do not worry me the guy asked for advice you advised him to spend in excess of 2 grand...
My advice is spend that 2 grand on something that needs it.
I never stated that going to a roller rocker setup is a bad thing just that with a hydraulic cam it is not a NECESSITY and if asked advice on cam etc for a high revving engine my answer would have been go SOLID and for that yes will need roller rockers more to the point ADJUSTABLE ROCKERS.
People have issues with rockers when they dont have the rest setup properly get of your chair go and do some work on these engines and get back to me when you have done so then you will learn HOW A ROCKER works and why it isn't a must have. I have been on here for 2 years but have been working on these engines for longer and in my book actual experience will always and forever beat heresay on the net. Hell if you want to believ everything you read then here is something for you the sky is black and your poo smells like roses. It is said on the net it must be true...
I dont need to be a member of LS1 tech to be able to advise based on experience.
So you read about some that have had bearing failure have you asked them exactly how everything was set up.....
You fail to realise how important setup is and by installing roller rockers you really think the real issue is fixed ummmmmmmm
Real advice diagnose and fix the real issue not a symptom but hell what the f**k would I know just been working on them since they came to OZ but hey Internet must be gospel and real world experience means nothing so do what the hell you want to do as the keyboard fights all your battles

Re: trunion upgrade or roller rockers for 383?

appreciate the info peter and from others, the whole reason i asked is because i don't have alot of experience on what is required with these motors. and yes 2k for rockers i can not afford no matter how good they are. i should have specified i was after a reliable budget setup and yes the motor will be "reved hard" but its not sitting at 8k for hours on end. i'm also using ported 243's with stock metal valve guides which are in great condition.

I will check the wipe pattern on the stock rockers and if its ok i will then work out what the price difference would be to either get adjustable roller rockers and use my existing pushrods 7.400" or stick with the stock ones and upgrade the trunions which will likely result in new pushrods again.

also is it even possible to correct the wipe pattern on stock rockers? you would have to shim the whole side because of the one peice rocker guide?

I'd listen to peter b, now he's identified himself as a supremo LS engine builder he can't be wrong....engine builders as good as him 'NEVER' get it wrong.
Pity anyone that gets a cam upgrade from you. Extremely old school thinking when you say go solid...Bullshit, these engines don't need to, you are way off course.

OP you originally asked for rockers that would support a hard revving 383ci...I gave you the best option. Peter would rather quote the cost factor...you didn't ask for a price limit.
It is good to see you are using sense in that you have taken in correct advice with adjustables or the trunion upgrade.

No no the only guru here is YOU mate you have proved to be an internet mechanic please sir come do my job for me you my friend are a tool..
Advise on what you have done or shut up you have not backed up your claims as YOU DONT know why those guys in the states had problems I have more aggressive cams in cars and are running standard rockers but correct springs correct pushrods preload where it should be and revving farking hard no issues and have k's on them too not a fresh out of the box but hey you arte the guru here maybe you can even tell workshops how to do their job too considering being a member of forums makes you SUPER SMART...
To the OP if you setup your valvetrain correctly it will work fine but pay particular attention to your seat and open pressures, installed heights, and pushrod length which will determine your preload. Yes you can shim up the rockers but I would rather see you use correct length pushrods..
If you go the trunion upgrade later it will change the length pushrod you use so if you are going to go that way do it now rather than later as would be having to buy pushrods all over again.
LS1 VN wake up to yourself and go do something other than read crap on the net but hey it is all true it on the net....

You sound like a god damn parrot.
I'm not knocking you with springs etc, just your determination to use standard rockers on an upgraded cam build....bet you do it on all your builds, why leave a weak link to chance.
It's others who are paying you hard earned $$$$ to build them a solid engine yes, so why not at the least give them the trunion upgrade.
Plenty of mouthy engine builders around to mate...lots of engine builds gone very bad as well from them. I also had an engine build go extremely bad from an engine builder with (he said) 30yrs experience, plus run his own very succesful workshop as well as building rally & Targa cars etc....so for give me if I believe you with a grain of salt.

funny calling me a parrot go and do the work back your comments up
Answer this HOW can a bearing fail if all the valvetrain geometry is correct??
These engines suffer from valve float quite easily going a heavier rocker doesnt help this yes can be over come but the standard rockers are very robust and to be fair I have never had one fail so to call it a weak link you are missing the whole point.
It's whole purpose is to move up and down now unless you havent got everything else correct then it wont fail more than just one thing happens to these engines when valve float occurs, lifters can turn, valve springs can break and it can have an undesirable impact to you guessed it the rockers. So my point in getting everything else correct is a VALID and correct response. For me to say you MUST get roller rockers such as you suggested I would have to be completely convinced that they fail on there own accord which is bs take some time do some research as to how a rocker works before flaming people just because some have had issues doesnt meant they have done everything else correctly.
But going by your theory every cam job needs roller rockers right??
Biggest load of crap I have ever heard. You really think reading stuff on the net makes you a guru do it for a living then get back to me spend other peoples money and for your info I dont make my money of the cam jobs and engines I do. For the most part are love jobs so who's money am I wasting di*khead.
If it were a necessity I would advise as such. More of a necessity when going solid not hydraulic as there is 2 ways of doing it
Properly or your way of just putting roller rockers on it because the bearing fails not because something else hasnt been done right...
Hell people even blame the lifters and lifter trays for the lifter turning...

I was running stock rockers on my harrop htv 1900 and cammed ls1 making 490 rear wheel ponies with no issues at all. Id have to agree with Pete B on this. If your engine builder suggests a trunion upgrade do it,it'll save you some coin rather than paying big money for some after market ones that will do the exact same thing.
