I live in Frankston South. Would i have seen this recently? I was heading down towards Somerville few days ago and saw one like this. Was coming off a round-about so couldn't get a good look. Saw the colour and white on black plates. I knew i'd seen a build thread for one on here. Either way car looks great. It would be awesome to have a car to cruise around in that had some character.

    Fantastic car Ziggy,

Tell me as it's hard to tell exactly in your latest photo, does the black on the sill is meant to stay on that edge (as it seems to do), and therefore not wrap over the sill edge inside the door opening above the sill?

The only reason I ask the LX Torana SS wraps in under the door, and because you can see the black under the door, it always looks like that photo of your HQ in that the sill black-out both ahead and behind the door doesn't appear to line up.

Seems crazy they did it this way given they seemingly got it right beforehand with the HQ - having said that, being a stickler for originality I too wrapped the paint under the door when we painted it a few weeks back and so I guess am also guilty of being crazy in this regard...

Again, a great car and your efforts are obvious - it looks better than they did new - bloody well done!

    Any interior pics?

And is your colour a COB or solid? If solid has that had clear put over? Just that it looks really good - if just solid then kudos to the prep, colour and painter.

    Cheers, TB

    Thanks TB,

The black rolls over the edge by about 3 mm.

The paint is a solid Glasurit 2 pac and no clear over the top. The finish is straight out of the gun. Very happy with the job and price.

Heres a few pics of the black and interior with new carpet.

    That looks fantastic Ziggy.
The vinyl looks so good I assume it is new stuff - where did you get it from out of interest?
The steering wheel looks original as opposed to RSP item - have you seen how much the original wheels (5mm spokes) go for nowadays - crazy!
And how about the door cards - have you got new ones or are the original cards in good condition?
It's amazing how much it costs to bring one of these cars back to scratch isn't it? And you get duped by the old; 'oh it only $x for this', and later 'only $x for that', but before you know it all those bits here and there really add up hey!
In any case, thanks for sharing and please keep us posted.
    Cheers, TB

    Thanks TB.
All of the interior is as I bought it bar the new carpet. Gave the seats a good clean and came up sweet. The rear seat has 2 spots where the stitching has ripped but not too bad.
The steering wheel is original. Just needs a good clean.
The door cards are in a OK condition and will be reusing them for the time been.
Yeh, the dollars soon start to add up. I have been lucky so far and reused just about everything.
Only purchased so far, besides the paint job, some rust repair bits, Doors, Carpet, Full rubber kit, and a few bits and pieces.

Re: My new project. HQ GTS

    Bit of an update.

Had a small setback with the new front screen fitted about 2 months ago cracking. Not too sure why but have replaced it and is now ready for rego.
Hopefully the rain will stay away so I can get it out of the shed.

    Bit of a walk around.

Had a similar issue with windscreen cracking on my HX. Turned out to be the tips of the screws for the stainless trim down the A pillar touching the edge of the glass. Something to watch out for.
Car looks great Ziggy. Our family mechanic from years ago had (and still has) a mint HJ monaro 2 door in the same yellow. Mum had it as a courtesy car when I was around 10 years old and man did I feel like king shit cruising in it! Was featured in a current affairs program some time ago appreciating enthusiast's cars before we all became hoons.

this makes me miss my old HQ
Great job so far mate, and I hope to see if crusing around Bris soon.

Can I just recommend to you replacing the front seatbelts. Those are now over 40 years old and aren't going to be worth a pinch of shit should the worst happen.
When I did mine up I had the front belts tested and they tore apart with only minor tension/force, and that was 10 years ago!

    Good Job.
    Nothing like the sound of a Holden V8...but, a SINGLE exhaust?.......C'mon.......it's a V8 Monaro...GOTTA have dual exhausts!

Just a question on the GTS steering wheel/s. How much are they going for nowadays?
Also i have heard of a brown/tan version but with a black holden lion badge in the centre cap.
Does anyone know of these wheels? They must be rare and what did they come off?

Also while on the subject of the old girls, What are GTS dashboards going for these days? Either HX white needle & black face & woodgrain face or HZ yellow needle black face?
    Cheers Phill
