VE ute- who's loaded two bikes on there?

    Hi All
I'm planning to head up the coast to ride a particular stretch of road. Its a 4-5 hour ride from my place on the freeway to get the road i want to ride, which will be a nightmare on my R1. So I'm thinking of loading my R1 and a mates CBR1000 on the tray of my VE SS and driving up. Measuring up the tray and the bikes, it looks like it they'll fit.......just. I will be the looking to change the factory mounts for the tie downs as from doing some reading it sounds lke there rubbish.

So i'm asking if anyone how loaded 2 supersport or similar bikes on the tray of a VE SSor am i going to have rent a bike trailer. If it can be done, am i going to need to buy floor mount rail or are the factory side mounts going to be enough

    Thanks guys

I do 2 dirtbikes on a regular basis but have only had 1 roadbike.

I am guessing the bikes will physically fit but it will be hard to secure them via normal bar straps as the bikes will be too close to the side of ute to allow the straps to be pulled tight without rubbing and possibly cracking the fairings. The holden option tie down hooks go in the floor so will make this angle worse for carrying bikes. ANd take up floor space.

I use the marouk industries VE ute tie down rails and they are definitely stronger than the stock sheet metal rubbish.

Send 'em an email and ask for a 'special price.'

Hmmmm.....don't be using the OEM tie down points. I did some damage whilst tieing in a CBR250, the Blade/R1 are considerably larger/heavier bikes.....OEM tie down points are like butter....
Couldn't even tie in a mates postie bike real well without them fking up....then the road bike also did a little damage to the bar the front wheel sat against

You'd likely come close . . . .I fear you may run out of width trying to fit 2 roadies in there either collecting the pegs on the side of the wheel arches or touching each bike - for the cost of the weekend a trailer sounds like a better idea unless you were planning on doing this sorta thing often....? Don't know anyone you can borrow a trailer from?

I'd also suggest you jump onto NSW Road and Track riders (RATS) because there are threads on this on that forum...

We often do the same thing for a lap of the Snowies - Canb to Cooma and beyond is freakin boring (and the leg home) so we often trailer out to Jindy and go from there....makes for a comfy drive home after shredding twisties all day LOL...

All the best - post up some pics of how you got along getting them in there, I'd be interested....

Thanks guys. i've seen 2 CBR1000 on a VY but i don't know if the VE tray is the same specs as the VY. I might have a trial run and see if i can get them on although its sounding like a trailer might be easier.

Throw out the upside down 4mm steel tie down points and replace them with 6mm steel unit with the tie down point facing up like i did.
Three years later there still good.
